... but since we were chatting about low-light stuff the other day: here's Tri-X at ISO 102,400.

Neat, but what's with the letters and numbers visible on the image?

Backing paper isn't completely light-proof: at least, not to the extent that is required with an eight-stop push.

Please! I gather its 120 film from the numbers? Wow, that's pretty massive grain :))

In what and for how long did you soup it? What was the exposure?

I'm doing the exact same playing around with the ISO's I'm shooting. I'm trying to see how SLOW I can get my T-Max 100 to pull. I'm hoping for something like your 8 shot push, pulled (4-6 stops would be fine for my purposes).

I've pulled Tri-X to 50, 25 and 12.5 would seem easily achievable.

Merciful's pic exhibits an ink/emulsion reaction either from delayed processing or an unusual emphasis by the extreme push. The printing of the writing as white is inconsistent with fogging.
 
Out of curiosity what does the negative look like without stretching? I'm not sure how to be quantitatively show other people how thin or dense a neg is though.
 
Words leave me at the moment. Setting levels in photoshop or gimp.
I took a snap shot of the neg on the light box but it was crappy and scanning the negative with full color range worked better and still demonstrated what I'm getting at. (Excuse the crappy pic, was a holga shot, APX in diafine - not a good combination and especially not with a fixed shutter/aperture camera. I dont have any good sounding excuses for the skills of the photographer. )

I've seen some dynamic range squishing with diafine that may have been overagitation (though that usually results in very thin negatives) but I got good mid tones in the negative - the neg looked ok on density to hold it up to the light, but everything scanned at middle grey. The Delta-3200 I shot in the holga came out like an grey lithograph.

My apologies for posting a holga shot in the Leica forum as well. :)
 
Ah, I get it now. Attached is a sample in as-scanned condition.
 
Thanks, I was curious if the push harmed dynamic range. Grain is obvious but grain will still print. I need to get some rodinal.
 
That was HC-110, not Rodinal. And a push always compresses the range.
