Olympus 35 RD Questions

Hi!

i have two 35 RD cameras and both do not indicate the correct f-stop numbers in the finder. When i set the f-stop ring to f16, the dot between f8 and f16 (f11) is indicated in the finder. It's the same with f11. The needle jumps to f8 when pressing the release button slightly.

Furthermore the ISO lever does not click into position on both cameras.

Are these common 35 RD problems?

If I remember correctly Oly RD has an undocumented feature that it does meter even if you set the exposure manually. So your manual exposure setting is merely a gentle proposal for the camera. It will use your manual setting if it's feasible. This was confirmed to me by a camera repair person who worked for Olympus when RD was on the market. You can test it in bright daylight by setting the lens fully open (f/1.7). The camera will take a photo but uses some other aperture setting and prevents you from an accidental overexposure.

ISO lever does not click but slides (too easily). It's a bummer. I used a small piece of duct tape to keep it in place.

When you take the selector dial off "A" the meter movement in the bottom of the camera gets turned "off". So, you really are in mechanical manual mode. The needle in the viewfinder may be out of adjustment, but it does not mean that camera is setting wrong f stop. Camera sets f11, but needle reads 8. Needle needs fine adjustment (but this may make needle not accurate across the entire range). John

i had fix several RD's with the problem mentioned by Jonh above:
its only the needle that needs to be adjusted, and its a relative easy task.

I have an RD that is in dire need of attention (given to me in pieces) and probably only good for spare parts.

Lens and most of it is good, just someone has taken the front of the lens apart for some reason.

If anyone is chasing a particular part let me know!
