I agree with that--I'm having as much fun as I have with my film M's, even though m4/3 is a very different experience. There are lots of little nerdy things to try out, lots of ways to experiment.

He he - I like the Nerdy things to do - I just got some extension tubes to try out Macro - ha ha ha. I have got the bug.

Palker, can you tell me what extension tubes you are getting and from where? I am interested in trying that. Thank you.

I love Olympus, but Panasonic is, as the saying went, "Slightly ahead of its time". I am enjoying both the G1 and the GF1. I keep the Lumix 7-14, along with the CV Mini Finder, on the GF1 all the time. The 14-45 and the 45-200, stay with the G1. The files from both, while no Leica M8, are awesome in their own right. I shoot RAW only and am careful with processing. I have had no trouble with my stock agents taking imagery from either of these 2 cameras.

Hi,
weeellll .. I have Nikon primes so I have just got a set of three tubes from here http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...97079&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3715wt_1042 they seem to work fine on my D700 and the GF1 - I have a Nikon to m4/3 adapter.
In hindsight maybe the Autofocus is not needed but they seem to have contacts for the lenses to pass the exposure details and the aperture step down works on the D700. On the GF1 of course the focus is manual, the exposure is through the lens so no problem. I have only played for 5 minutes before having to go out so no results I'd like to put my name against to post :()

I am absolutely loving my e-p1. In japan right now with that, the 17mm pancake and my 5d w/ L lenses. The e-p1 is brilliant - fantastic IQ and even the autofocus is very very good. It will focus in as low light as my 5d/35L, and generally even slightly quicker. I've tried the gf1 here and didn't really like it, felt like a plasticy P&S.

The AF problem with the E-p1 is absolute BS, it's got a good AF system when you know how to use it.

A quick question for those of you who know, can one use the panny 20mm lens on the oly ep1, will it autofocus and does the Ep1's IS work with this lens? I really love this lens but I like the EP1 body better.

from what i seen on the net, the colour pics taken by the Oly E P1 seem nicer to my eye than the colour shots from the Panny.

This has been my experience as well, except that I have one of each and my opinion is based upon comparing images I have captured with them side-by-side. That said, I don't see much difference between their RAW files...

Audii,
Question.
After the camera is set up and after you are ready to go....
which camera feels better to work with, your actual preference....
Forget the IQ nonsense....just from a shooters standpoint....

Compared to the E-P1, I prefer the GF1 in every respect, save two: its .jpg image quality and its in-body stabilization. For my tripod-based photography, I use the GF1; for my handheld photography, I use the E-P1. If the GF1 had in-body IS (or the 20mm lens had IS), then I would dump the E-P1 in a heartbeat.

Does that answer your question?

A note on E-P1/Lumix 20mm compatibility:

I'm sure some of you know this already, but today I discovered that it is possible to update the firmware on the 20mm 1.7 while mounted to the E-P1 through the olympus software! Focusing has never been faster :D

Yes, thank you....
If I'm gonna streetshoot with the GF1 I need to use a tripod....
Just kiddin'

But I know what you mean about the 20mm, with the Pen, it's a great combo....it's great with the G1 also...
Thanks again for your insight...

Yes, the update system for Olympus cameras and four thirds lenses attached to the camera is brilliant. It simply couldn't be easier.

As for the focusing, the 20mm f/1.7 is still slower than the Olympus 14-42 (marginally) and the Panasonic 45-200 (significantly). As the 17mm Olympus lens is definitely quicker to focus (while I don't own one, I have used it), it makes you wonder why Panasonic have obviously stuffed up (a little) in the focus motor department.

The GF-1 is one of the ugliest cameras I've ever seen. A far cry from the old LC1 for sure.

I am thinking of getting E-P2 14-45mm and the 20mm F1.7. No articulated LCD like the G1, but it's got a very hi-resolution EVF, and a tilt-able one at that. I really want a quality viewfinder after years of composing on small low-res LCD of my C-7070, so lack of viewfinder for the E-P1 is a dealbreaker for me.

The lack of focus distance indicator and DOF scale on ALL m4/3 cameras worries me though. Even my current camera, the Olympus C-7070, has a focus distance indicator on the LCD, allowing for accurate and precise pre-set focus. Lack of even a basic distance indicator on any of the m4/3 bodies is inexcusable.

As accountants like to say, there's no accounting for taste! Personally, I find the GF1 quite attractive (moreso than the E-P1, in fact) even when compared to the LC1, of which I happen to own a pair.
