Olympus Mju II eBay bargain still going strong

"We are not amused" is the correct quote I think.

No Olys, but I once bought a Canon AE-1, 50mm lens, and hippie strap in a Savannah thrift store for $13.50. OK, it happened probably 20 years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Just don't ask me to remember what actually happened yesterday 🙂

I would swear these were taken with a decent SLR!

The lens on it is pretty incredible. And that SLR (or rangefinder) prime lens look extends to portraits as well. Not only is it sharp, but I really like how it handles out of focus areas. That's critical given that the camera tends to choose the widest aperture possible.

For comparison's sake, take the Oly 35RC. Great camera, I love it, and it has a nice sharp lens. However, its "bokeh" is pretty distracting.

The bokeh from the Stylus Epic has always been pretty smooth and buttery, and is very pleasing to me.

Oh, I'm not giving up! I'm back up north now, and I'll find one soon, I'm sure!

I have a couple point and shoots I got for a good bargain...

Olympus Infinity Stylus (Super-pocketable 35/3.5) for $1.91
Canon Super Sure Shot AF35ML (40mm F/1.9!) for $10

I don't tend to find ridiculous deals. When I do I tend to spoil them anyway...like when someone gave me a Leica M2 and I couldn't let him just *give* it to me. Had to pay him $100 to get my conscience to ease up.

I couldn't slap filters on it, or set up for very long exposures of waterfalls and creeks, but it did what I needed it to do in the daylight on the trails and vista points.

You can always hand hold a filter in front of the lens in emergencies, it's a bit clumsy but works out alright. 🙂

Seems like a quite interesting camera. Infact, even I knew of it, I never paid attention to it untill this thread popped in.

Might as well get one soon 😀
eBay prices are a bit high, but with some hunting people seem to get it for good prices (under 30€).

Perfect "war" camera. Small, pocketable, quick and good IQ... Even my OM-1, which is a wonder, seems too big for me nowadays for daily carry and I end being too deliberate with it (sloow shooting). Quick and dirty snapping with a mju... seems a way to go.

I have three of these (the Olympus Stylys Epic without the zoom lens), all purchased at thrift stores for prices under $5 each ... I love the way the photographs come out. It is a perfect film point and shoot camera.

Slighty OT, but I just picked up a [mju:] Zoom 140 for $5 from a thrift store. It looks brand new - just need to go to the store for a CR123A battery...

Most of the thrift stores where I live sell plastic bodied P&S film cameras for $5. Sometimes you get the right ones 🙂
I'll keep an eye out for the II though, now I know what it's all about.

I *FINALLY* found a Stylus Epic after months of hitting thrifts! $5 and looks like new...came with box & hand strap too. No manual though but I can deal with it. 🙂

Shot one roll so far but wasn't that impressed...maybe because almost every shot was low-light with flash. Going to shoot another roll with just bright daylight & no flash, so hopefully I'll like those results much more.

talking about mju and bargain?
i can tell you some. when the weather begins to warm up i go almost every week to lokal fleamarkets around here. i saw a olympus mju-2 for 5 euro. but it wasnt on my wishlist. 2 weeks after that i realize what i had refused. when i went back after a few weeks again to that fleamarket the sellers where not there again. so a bought one on e(vil)bay for around 10 euros, which is a real bargain. the seller had declared it wrong, so almost no one bid against me. the normal price where 40euros here.

after that a few weeks later i went the the fleamarkt again, and what can i see in a corner? a mju-2. THE mju-2 a have seen some time ago, with same sellers. i get it for 3euros+a kodak film roll. now thats real luck

My two Mju II:s are not being used so I was thinking of maybe selling them. Looking at the prices on eBay now 2018, something must have happened. The prices are just ridiculous. That made me wonder why I don’t like them. I remember them as very prone to flare and without accurate autofocus. Maybe I should just put a roll through one of them and se if I get better results this time.

Are everybody here happy with yours?

And what happened to make the prices go up like this? They appear to actually be selling for around 200 dollars now.
