Watcth Out!

Watcth Out!

If anyone else is bidding for an "Epic" on Ebay, be careful! One of the listings ending today shows a picture of the standard "Stylus, f3.5, and not the "Epic, f2.8. The sale is not for an "EPIC"!!

Hi
I have a couple of Olympus Mju 1 Auto Focus cameras which I bought from a boot fair and Charity shop for £5.00 each .
I use them as neat pocket cameras , f 3.5 being no less fast than an Elmar .
I like the slides from them - would this be a similar camera ?
I am a bit ignorant on these cameras .

Ha, I just saw an Epic in the classifieds and I nabbed it for a great price! I can't wait to use it again!

The first Epic had a respectable 3 element lens, the II (Epic) has a better faster 4 element lens. I liked the styling of the first a little better myself.

With the Epic, one thing I have found with both of mine is that if you put them in your back pocket and sit on them a while it can force an electrical lock up and you have to rewind wherever you are... and other weird stuff.

Nice cameras, kind of squinty VF.

Hi, Dee.

The Mju I is indeed very similar being the predecessor of the Mju II but the control buttons are differently arranged. Also the newer model is weather resistant. I chose the Mju II for the fast 2.8 lens but the Mju I would be fast enough in most situations. I like keeping a look out for bargains and if a Mju I came my way in good condition then I wouldnt turn it down.

The last two Epics I've bought have worked fine for a few rolls and then died. I suspect 10 years is old age for these cameras... darn it. I just toss them in the trash now, no point trying to repair them.

I just toss them in the trash now, no point trying to repair them.

Local repairman commented that Epics have very tightly composed internals just like submarine; that's why he don't takes them for repair. He has tried to swap wind gearing assembly (this sometimes wears out, I have heard sound of worn mechanism) and something else failed after that.

Nice camera for it's era, though.

Though it is a fine camera and I bought a second one after the first one died, I don't really like it any more - since I fell in love with the XA.

Aaaah, the XA is a real range finder :) and I am able to set the aperture :) and can change the ISO setting easily myself :)
And though the XA is larger when I add the flash, people on my slides do not have red eyes any more in most cases :p

So, I set that little Stylus Mju silver fish free to swim in the Bay yesterday - bye, bye, sharkmeal! :D

Oh, but what I will miss: It was the only one of all my cameras I could use with just one hand.

Well the first roll of Neopan 400 is hanging up to dry and the results from my bargain camera look very pleasing indeed !!! All frames look well exposed and VERY sharp. The auto focus seems spot on and the spot metering works a treat. I rated my film at Ei 200 by re-coding the cassette and developed in Rodinal 1:50. That is my normal recipe for all my work and this little camera seems to like it too. Cant wait to make some prints now !!

I just bought a silver Mju II today from a chap that I know. I already have a Mju I, Trip, XA and 2 RCs so Mju II will be a nice addition to my collection of Olympus compacts.

OK it's a bit late in the day but I'll add that both the I and II are great but the II has spot metering. The real point is that the I has an oddity: you have to keep the "Self Timer" button pushed down whilst squeezing the shutter button to start it.

Mentioned as most old ones have long lost their instructions. Archived instructions for both on the Olympus USA website, btw.

Yesterday I visited my local thrift store. Came out with an Infinity Stylus, Minolta Auto 128 flash, 2 VCR tapes and a book, all for $5.04. Now to compare the Stylus f3.5 lens to the XA2 F3.5 lens.

These are from my black Stylus Infinity. $4 in mint condition at a thrift shop.

I recently covered a national event, burial of our former President, with just P&S; MJU II, T3 and LX3 and it's more than I needed. It was raining on and off so I get to use the MJU more.

I have been wanting a Mju II / Stylus Epic for a while and I couldn't bring my self to pay the prices that they are going for on ebay. At the end of July I stopped by a local thrift store and found a Mju II for $2.99 and then a couple of days later I found an original Infinity Stlus and Stylus Zoom. It must be my season for Olympus and the trio cost me less than $10.00. Now I just need to run across an XA.

Here's a shot of my current pocketable cameras. Picked up the original Stylus (bottom right) only yesterday for £2 at a car boot sale along with an Oly Trip 35 and PS200 flash for £5. Haven't shot a roll through most of these in ages but just couldn't resist a bargain.

kuvvy, that silver Super Mini/Tiara doesn't belong there - breaks whole black set. If you care about style, please send it to me and I will take further action :)

I read it lets to preset distance - is it easy to do? My zoom date f2.8 (aka silvi) has Quick snap mode, supposed to be same as also Tiara has - another useful feature for wide-angled compact.
