om 1 arrived today

Great price, Joe. I once got an OM-2 with 50/1.8 and original brown leather case for $56 + shipping. The case was in great shape and I didn't really need it, so I sold it for $40 + shipping. I sorta wish I'd kept it, but an OM-2 for net $16 was beauty. It is now my daughter's first camera.

but hold on to that om2 f(or me at a later date) unless you want to sell it for under 40 bucks...:)

Pass that joint over here, Joe...

:p

Fat chance. The black OM1n and black OM2n bodies are here to stay, and get semi-regular use. I find the OM2n and the 135 in particular make a nice combination with my M6 kit.

As a matter of fact, that reminds me - I need to get the OM1n shipped off to John Hermanson for a CLA and battery conversion.

I'll probably load up the OM and maybe 3 lenses tomorrow morning ... off to Hillebrand Estates for tasting the 2005 vintage Showcase wines. This is the barrel tasting; not bottled yet, so tasting is an adventure of predicting how it will develop after bottle aging and cellaring. Life is tough.

Joe,

Welcome to the world of the OM. I have an OM-1 and an OM-4, while I am a Nikon and Pentax guy, I love my two Olympus' and would love to get my fingers on an OM-3. I run with 28 f3.5, 35 F2.8, 50 F1.4, 50 F1.8, 135 F3.5 and a 75-150 Zoom. I have not had a bad shot yet with this system.

Bill

PS Earl, life is a bitch barrel tasting wines at the vineyard.

the 35-70, 75-150 and the 50 macro were just picked up from the local postal station.
they seem to be in great shape.
the 75-150 is exactly as i remembered it but the shorter zoom is way bigger than i remembered. funny how the old brain works.
the macro is very cool, it's a vivitar and goes 1 to 1 w/o an adapter.
time to get a better tripod, for sure.

so, i'm waiting on the 35, the 300, 19-35 and the winder and that is it.
i think the 19-35 might be the sleeper in the bunch, series one (i think) and a great range to play with.

hello :)

Anyone have a OM-1 or OM-1n to sell?
Just a few days ago I found the OM products. Oh my, what nice cameras ;)
I own a RF Oly 35 SP. Great great camera, with a great great great Zuiko lens :)
So, I decided to buy a OM-1 and two lens:
- Zuiko 50mm f/1.4
- Zuiko 24mm f/2.8 or a Zuiko 20mm f/2.8

Well.. for now I must dream :)

Congrats for the Oly forum :D

Joe

There were several short 35-70 zooms, a dinky variable max ap, and larger ones.

What filter size you got?

dinky 49mm
medium 55mm

- my memory shot I cannot recall the other filter size, but I still have not forgiven/forgotten your series filter comments either

Noel

P.S. be careful if you have an early OM1 or M1 they need the top off when you do the foam replacement otherwise the foam 'eats' the pentaprism, not at all funny...

noel,
your post is a bit confusing to me...

i have the 35-70/4 zoom. not sure what the filter size is on that one but it's bigger than 49mm.
what did i say about filters??

Sorry I was teasing, I did not mean to bait, you told me to search 'series', and I had searched but I think some of the posts you could recall are broken links now. If I get more details I'll PM you a tentative post for you to proof.

I think the 35-70/4 is 55mm (from memory) and I know it is big, the variable ap ( forgotten the f numbers 3.5-4.5 I think) is 1/3 the length at minium and 49mm i.e. really small, both are amazing performers for their day and pretty rugged mechanically. There was a 3rd more expensive, and even better - I think, never had this one, possibly a 3.5.

So your memory may be ok?

Joe enjoy the OM.

That third lens was the 35-70mm f/3.6. Great lens.

If I were to get any OM zoom it would be the the 35-70/3.6 or the 35-80/2.8. The latter is serious bucks used.

the best part is how cheap this gear is now. i remember when it came out and i was buying it new and saving for it.

and having to plead my case to wife #1...ughh!

including the 300, all this gear will have cost about 300 bucks.
i just spent 1200 on the zeiss and the cheapest zm lens is 600 bucks.

joe

Ain't it the truth! I've had my OM-1 for 31 years, but lately I've aquired ALL of the OM gear of my dreams. Including the OM-2 I always wondered if I should have bought instead (found I made the right choice 31 years ago. Too damn complicated...). Got me an Bounce Grip, winder and a Quick Auto 310. At Christmas time I look like a wedding photographer who stepped through a time warp. Wound up with an OM-20 that came with the 70-200mm zoom I realy wanted. A 350 and a 400mm lenses (low-ball bid on each, hit by Murphy's law of Ebay...) A "few" other items and a bag I can't actualy lift.

Recently sent the Om-1 and the OM-2 in for somewhat over due CLA, meter repair, and battery conversion (no extra cost with an Om-1CLA) at Camtech: http://www.zuiko.com/index.htm Highly recomended, lots of iinfo on the web site too. ( take a good look at the seals if they haven't been replaced already)

The OM-1 and 50mm 1.8 have been my kid and now grandkid shooter of choice sence, well sence the first roll shot through the hospital nursery window 31 years ago. I added a 35-70mm zoom for going from inside to back yard, but found a 28mm and feet just as serviceable and less cumbersome.

I highly recommend Camtech as well - I bought my OM-1md from him, CLA, battery adjustment and foam replacement included.

I was sure that i had logged on to RFF but i seem to have found the secret hideout of the Oly gang instead :)
I have an om40 which is a great little light tight box even if it does use batteries at an alarming rate
Would like a OM1 or maybe a OM2n and i hear the OM4 is ok too ... my now deceased OM10 was ok but coudn't handle the rough and tumble of Arfica, but it was great while it lasted.
Currantly using a 24mm f2.8 a 100mm f2.8 and a Tamrom 300mm which i feel just about covers all my needs.
I think they are great cameras and wonderful lenses, not too expensive at the moment but that can't last. I have notice a demand for them here in NZ on our version of *bay so maybe the word is out that great gear doesn't need to be expensive or start with the letter L.
