very nice.

i'd like to get an 85 or 100 prime but they seem to be at the more expensive end of the om lenses.
this kit was supposed to stay cheap.

as it is...i think i just bought a 300 om lens.

Looks like you are going to need a big bag soon, Joe. :)

got the bags but i'm thinking maybe a better tripod for the 300.

i have a great photo on my wall taken years ago with a 300, could have been an om. have no idea where the slide is though. i took it handheld but these days the hands are not as steady.
i'm looking forward to your parcel ray as it has the most in it!!

the 28 looks new and had a tiffen uv filter attached. it was in a lens case and had both caps with it too. i'm guessing a lenshood will be hard to track down?
PM me with specific info about that 28; I might have a gen-u-wine Olympus hood that suits.

Must be getting close by now. I can imagine how you must be feeling right now - Christmas in October. :)

the best part is how cheap this gear is now. i remember when it came out and i was buying it new and saving for it.

and having to plead my case to wife #1...ughh!

including the 300, all this gear will have cost about 300 bucks.
i just spent 1200 on the zeiss and the cheapest zm lens is 600 bucks.

Damn, Joe, it was a little over a decade ago that I had an OM-4T, OM-3, plus a 180mm f/2.8, 100mm f/2, and 35-70 f/3.6, plus a 300 f/4.5 that I used probably three times before getting rid of it (I just don't mix with teles above 135mm). All I have now, SLR-wise, is an OM-2n inherited from a dear friend who couldn't deal with manual focus any more (she's in her 60s...I told her to buy a Canon Elan 7) with just a 50mm f/1.8 and a set of extension tubes for close-up work, which is about all I use the camera for. Great camera system...wish they'd adopt more of the OM philosophy with their E-series digitals (instead of just pretending to).

Ah, but you know the score now: with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, none of us really knew what we had then, did we?

how true.
when i think about all the 'classic' nikons and canons i also had at one time or another, it's hard to believe.

Shot countless wedding in the 80's and 90's with my trusty OM1 and Mamiya 645. The OM1 did all the candid and low light stuff inside the church - so quiet! Still have it but fungus and mould have taken over :(

But I always wanted an OM2 and picked one up a couple of weeks ago on ebay - God they're cheap - just have to find a good one.

No camera I've ever owned feels as good in the hands as an OM.

Will be developing the first film (HP5) tonight and will post some images if any take my fancy.

Hope you have fun with yours too!

Cheers,

John

I have a bunch of OM gear if anyone is interested. OM-4, OM-1's and 2's, 50's, 24-28-35-135 all 2.8's, hoods etc. Wouldn't mind selling it because I don't use it anymore.

How much for the 24mm?

Cheers,

John

Joe,

The Oly lens hood for 50 1.4, 50 1.8, and 28 f3.5 are one and the same.

Barrett has already responded to Joe's need for a hood for the 28/3.5, but this is not correct. I think it's just a typo. The hoods (both metal and rubber varieties) that fit the 50/1.4 and 50/1.8 also can be used on the 35/2.8, not the 28/3.5. The 28/3.5 and 28/2.8 take the same hood, which is a flared, screw-in unit.

Both types of hoods are relatively easy to find on oBoy. I prefer metal to rubber. The metal hood for the 50 and 35; they are clamp-on reverse to store on the lens and allows the lenscap to be used at the same time.

Also, the hood for the 100/2.8 is the same hood used on the 85/2. The faster lenses (24, 28, 35, 100, 90) do command much higher prices than the f2.8 and f3.5 samples. I am entanced by the 35/2; Graham Batteson has some great 35/2 shots. 24/2 and 100/2 photos are a bit harder to find.

All this talk has me wanting to haul out an OM and give it some exercise. Which lens, which lens ....

Most of my OM stuff was lost in a burglary about four year ago, all this talk is just opening up old wounds; I really really miss some of those lenses!

I still have my black OM1n I bought new back in 1980. I added a Om2s a decade later and a OM4 which I sold to a member here. I've always longed for the Zuiko 18mm lens. Enjoy it Joe, it is a wonderful system.
