One camera, one lens and one roll of film

I have always liked the idea of a non-interchangeable lens camera.
Of course, the fixed lens should be great ;-)

Recently I have purchased Contax T and Fujica GS645 cameras.
Will I dump all the SLRs? Not sure yet...

Excelsior, you fathead!

Easy...............................Ricoh Gr-1 [28mm]and Velvia 100.....................they go everywhere with me anyway, and account for nearly half my published work............................
The, nikon action touch [35mm], xpan +2 primes , 3 voigtlanders+7 primes, 3 pentax LXs+8 primes and noblex account for the rest between them, clearly the inverse square law at work!
Actually in light of this the nikon actiontouch is clearly choice no.2...........................still with velvia 100..................

Always have a love/hate relationship with this kind of thread! 😀

Following good example - from what I have

1. M3 DW + 50mm Summilux, with HP5 or Tri-X
2. MP + 28mm Summicron or 50mm DR Summicron, with Provia 100F or K64
3. Hasselblad 503CX + 80mm Planar, with HP5, Tri-X or Velvia 100

and from the wish list

1. Leicaflex SL + 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R or 180mm Apo-Telyt-R, with HP5 or Tri-X
2. Alpa 12SWA (44x66cm back) + probably Schneider 38mm Super-Angulon XL, with HP5, Tri-X or Provia 100F

How did you start off with a 50mm lens? That just isn't you.

Well, M3, 50mm Summicron and TriX. I would use it like a fancy P&S.

i don't know what i was thinking...!

now the hard part would be choosing which 35.

and i'm struggling on choosing a regular film also.

I have not yet shot a roll of color film in my Leicas or Canon IV, I actually thought of it though this weekend. But I had a Minolta SRT with me for that.

this film thing is a pita and me along with it.

i make up these silly 'rules' in my head and then force myself to prove me either right or wrong.

i made up the rule that i was going to shoot classic cameras, then only old (er) original glass.

(canon on canon - maybe you've heard about it?)

then i decided i 'should' shoot old film- tri-x - for 'the look'

but now i think, a slower film maybe or years ago i had decided that i loved the delta films and was very satisfied with them, especially 3200 at 1000. (medium format)
but the rules said no modern film with classic glass.

drive myself crazy...

My Fuji GA645 with loads of Portra 160NC or Fuji NPH400. If forced to use black-and-white I'd probably get something Ilford or Agfa in 400 speed.

The wrong question

The wrong question

Imagine if you will, you had to choose one and only one camera, lens and roll of film.

What would your choice be?

Ouhh , again this one!! No matter if it is based on the assumption that there is a large fund of gear available or that we had to buy first one camera + lens + film beeing on a narrow budget : I guess what the sense of this question could be ???

And what I find absolutely amazing is that not one single photog here wants to know the second part of the question !!

-WHERE DO I GO ??
-WHAT DO I SHOOT ??

in other words:
Happy vacancy to those who take a 50mm lens for a wildlife trip in Africa!
And happy shooting to all who go to a car race with a Graflex 🙂
But that's all nothing compared to Paris by night with a Rollei TLR ! Best a old Cord with a hazy f3.5 finder lens and a dirty screen.

There is NO camera that can do all jobs. 35mm SLRs are a very versatile tool
, maybe the most versatile solution we still have. And probably this why they dominated the pro market from the 70s on.
But they are still not good for every thing. and no other camera will ever be that.

Bertram

perhaps not but...my camera can do any job THE WAY THAT I DO IT!

that 50mm lens ( actually a 35mm) in africa would photograph the locals and hunters alike, would shoot a way of life and the people living it.

close up shots of lions & tigers, oh my! not my style.

>>Color for SLRs and B&W for RF<<

I started out just the opposite, using SLRs for black and white work and toting an RF for color. That was years ago though. I haven't shot an SLR since 1998 with the exception of one work assignment in 2002 that, in retrospect, could've been done was well or better with RF cameras.

This whole thread seems like an exercise in minimalism. Perhaps a shoebox with a pinhole to fix an an image on bitumen of Judea (the preferred film of Nicephore Niepce).

Well there is no contradictionto my remarks, you simply don't shoot what your camera cannot do and leave the animals out in this case. You would not go to car races either with that 50 or if you would go anyway you would leave out the cars on the track.
But that is another story, the story of a lucky man whose photographical intentions are ALL covered by one camera and lens, the perfect congruence of will and tool, in other words the very last state of inspiration.
BTW: How many lenses do you have ? 😀

Bertram

I have yet to find a replacement for TechPan 25.
