Opinion on W-Nikkor 3.5cm F3.5

Some really good photos here, although something tells me any camera or lens would shine in the hands of underlord. 🙂

I have a very early 35/3.5 Nippon Kogaku Tokyo in Leica thread, MIOJ, I don't think it performs to the level of the later Nikon RF lenses.

Here's some photos I took around Old San Juan, Puerto Rico yesterday, shot with expired HP5 and souped in HC110.

If you want to see what that lens can do, get some better film, and even better yet, some slower film so that the grain does not mask the lens performance.

Fast film is fine but the scanning looks like it was done with an office scanner and a white piece of paper or something.

Here's the (LTM, on a Leica III) 3.5cm f/3.5 with Tri-X, dev'd in SPUR HRX:

I do really like this lens but it is definitely less than optimal in the corners resolution-wise, compared to newer/better lenses, if that matters.

I just overhauled this little thing and I will publish it in my richardhaw.com blog in the coming weeks (tomorrow is an F-mount lens).

I love this lens a lot. I bought it for the historical value and since I shoot at f/8 most of the time, the f/3.5 doesn't matter at all to me.

I have a 35/1.4 Ai-S but it's not a junk - so, no 😱😱😱

what happened to your 35/1.4? haven't opened one yet but I assume that it's not so difficult since there are no gimmicks involved. I must say, S-mount and Leica lenses are even more of a pain because of the special tools needed:bang:

Just general cleaning. Focus seems a bit stiff.

I'm a fan; it has an old Zeiss look about it, a good compliment to an Elmar, but not quite the same look. Better for black and white, but here are a couple of color shots too:

The LTM/S-mount W-Nikkor 3.5cm F2.5 and Nikonos W-Nikkor 35mm F2.5 are the same 6 elements in 4 groups optical formula, but the E-Series Nikon 35mm F2.5 is a completely different lens (5 elements in 5 groups). It has to be to clear the mirror/meet the backfocus requirements of an F-mount body.

Just on the Nikonos lens: I've used it above the water; it is a superb lens.

I cannot comment on underwater use, as I haven't used it under these conditions.

I see. I may make an overhaul article for that on my richardhaw.com blog in the future. been getting a few requests to do so.

I made a lens cap for my 3.5/.35 from a rear lens cap (contax?) that I cut down and lined with velvet. saved me a couple of $$$.

I just dropped mine from a little more than 1m last night because I was super tired. the solid brass on the end of the lens hit a paint tin. :bang:

sold to me for 1/3 the running price because it had fungus. 😱😱😱

this is the next version after the one I got, looks almost identical but now comes with aperture clicks and some lettering changes. it should have similar construction but there are several differences in the lens and it's a bit different internally.
