I realise that I am very much stuck with 35mm SLR perceptions of the 70s -

Extreme wide angles even 24mm , being expensive and prone to distortion .
Long telephotos ditto with weight restrictions .

To me being able to use a 135 f3.5 Rokkor on a 4/3rds L1 was a revelation - 270mm , add a 2x converter - 540 mm , light and easy at infinity [ focus free ]

Now , 12mm wide angles are the norm even on 4/3rds , compacts with thumb nail sensors offer 12x zooms which fit into tiny cameras . Compacts at the air fair probably capture as much or more than I can , albeit at a loss of resolution . However many of the i-pod generation seem quite content with crushed music and crushed photos from a mobile phone .

Those of my daughter's [ b 1976 ] generation expect a wide view and massive zoom , and stepping up to an APSc size sensor comes as shock when the kit zoom is so restricted , and another lens is demanded to reach what a compact does with ease .
[ Although she does appreciate the quality and lower light capabilities of the Panasonic G1 we bought her ]

I guess I will never catch up !

It does seem to me that no-one really cares about quality any more ... assuming that they would even recognise it!

During my fairly long photographic 'career' I have only used 35mm format for a relatively short time before moving on to medium format - I have since shot with 6 x 4.5, 6 x 6, 6 x 7 and panoramics. But whenever I have bought lenses for those cameras I have always had to convert the focal length to the equivalent 35mm length before I could really understand what I was buying. It seems to be some sort of 'standard', in my mind at least.

I can't get my old head around these sensor sizes so when I recently purchased a DSLR I went for Full Frame - no problems except for the COST!
