I'm thinking of recovering my M240 black with a black lizard skin... what would you guys think? Does it make any sense to re-skin a completely brand new camera?
Here is the final result of a makeover I made of one of my Meteors (not a rangefinder - but hopefully that's still OK). The new covering is a re-purposed faux-leather purse I purchased from the thrift store. This in combination with the contrasting black paint job gives the camera a really different look from the original - softer and more sophisticated, I would like to think. 🙂

For those not familiar with the Meteor, it is a simple viewfinder camera taking 620 film, made in the US by Universal Camera Corporation in the late '40's. As much as I like them for their interesting and quirky feature set, I have always felt that the originals had a sort tin-can vibe to them due to their bare aluminum top and bottom plates, and the cheap paper-like black leatherette. This was my attempt to maybe add just a little class to one of my favorite old shooters. 🙂
The thing that's nice about the later Russkii cameras is that they used that horrible rubber fabric stuff which inspires the owner to re-do the cameras. This is stuff from Tandy leather. Next one, I'm going for some kind of exotic.
