I sent Mike Eckman my Model 1A and was absolutely blown away with the BW and color images he made (all up on his website)•••••. Barnack got the 1A absolutely correct. It was and IS an excellent no excuses needed Camera. I truly wish ALL Leica users, especially those who fret over their fragile electo Ms, could take a relaxed day and get to know simple precise photography again.

Thanks Erik. May I ask, what is the condition of the lenses on your three? I've look at Leica I cameras a number of times over the years and every listing has had "Haze", "Light Haze", "Some Fogging" in the lens descriptions. How much "light haze" can you get away with and still have a usable picture maker?

Best,
-Tim

Thank you, Timmyjoe,

The lenses on my cameras are in a great condition.

It is absolutely necessary to have the lenses cleaned on the inside. This is not very difficult if the mechanical condition of the lenses is good.

Also the front and rear lenses must be unscratched.

Available on eBay is the booklet "How to Clean Old Leica Lenses and Accessories" by Kuramochi Noboyuki (Nobbysparrow), a great help.

Erik.

Thanks Erik. Found the book on eBay. Maybe I'll have to look into getting one of those Leica I cameras after all.

Best,
-Tim

What is the hood on your Elmar pictured above?

Hap

Thank you, Hap, that hood is a later model Fison.

The first Fison was like this:

Not very handy, because every time you focused the lens, you had to realign the hood, otherwis it would vignette.

After this one many different Fisons were made. The one on my camera above has a clamp-screw, so it will be from around 1931.

All the best,

Erik.

I would use a 'FLQOO' hood on your Summar
It was designed for the 3.5cm f3.5 Elmar but it can be used on the 5cm Hektor, Elmar and Summar.
I think it is the finest lenshood produced by Leitz, so neat and small and makes it much easier to adjust the aperture on the Hektor and Elmar being wider for the fingers than the 'FISON'.

Anybody agree with me ?

Recently found my copy again.
It was a great help cleaning the 2.8cm f/6.3 Hektor.
I found Nobby's lens clamps to be very handy tools as well.
