Save the date September 13-24th for Photoville.

Trying to prevent my life from being so last minute due to the world of fashion encroachment making be a bit crazed.

Better early than later for me.

BTW this year is passing fast.

UPDATE: We will be "Grouping-Up" on Sunday September 17th at noon at the Carousel.

Expect huge crowds this year and realize that this year's Photovill is about a third larger than last year's. If you really want to see all 75 displays better go early because as a group it is not practical.

Realize that Saint Ann's Warehouse will be part of Photoville and there will be demos, presentations, and panel discussions...

It is evident to me that the new photodistrict of NYC is now becoming Dumbo.

So I kinda signed up to to be more involved with this event this year by volunteering. Perhaps I am a true greedy smut queen and I want to know all the behind the scene actions.

I am sure I will meet people. Dumbo is becoming a big deal and Photoville is a big part of it. I'm in.

Yesterday I was in Dumbo shhoting "Maggie." Seems like all the time fans come and ask for a selfie, or ask me to take the shot. Met a new interesting friend Tim.

Saturday in SoHo we got pov-er-rot-zit-C-ied.

for the past 3 years I've volunteered with the Sydney photo festival, which is called Head On. Head On has been going for 10 years or more I think and is well established in Australia. It's the largest photography event in the country I believe.
It's great fun and I learnt a lot about curating and selection, as well as the mechanics of hanging pictures and laying out a room.
It's very valuable to get as close as you can to the main guy/gal of the festival because that's where you learn how it all works. Installation work, as opposed to hospitality work, gets you closer to the action and is more rewarding.

I'm trying not to be a lazy slacker. I have been living in a small universe of my own creation.

At some point you just got to get out and put yourself out there. I can see learning a lot, and it is an easy way to get outside of yourself. Perhaps I'm looking for the bigger picture.

Not sure what I'll be doing, but I'm game for anything. In NYC and in this point and time anything can happen.

I entered a PDN contest with two shots. These things are kinda like a vanity contest because there is an entrance fee. I sent in two shots of "Maggie" for a Street/Runway catagory.

My delusional mind thinks I could use the $3.5K grand prize, and the winning shots could be displayed as part of Photoville because PDN is one of the big sponsors.

Last year we kinda skimmed Photoville. The event was too big to see everything as a group. Also some of the stuff was really fresh and inspiring. This year I want to see it all and take it all in.

Cal, when I first signed up to help at Head On I also felt in a rut and in a closed world of work and limited play. It's great fun helping out in an endeavour you support ideologically and if the people who run it are sympatico. I've made friends and seen a side of the art world that I never would have otherwise.
What's particularly interesting is seeing or hearing about the photo competition judging and the selection of shows to exhibit. Lots of robust discussion and not a little politics. If you're an entrant you need to know what the judges are predisposed to and what they are looking for. In large competitions it's cutthroat. Good luck.

I'm totally under the radar, but the images I submitted are of "Maggie" who is a celeb.

Last weekend in Soho, I was minding my own business, but we ran into some of Maggie's followers. The usual selfies and me taking cell phone pictures for others. Around dusk I shot some video of Maggie walking past an eyewear store that was displaying a picture of her of a shot taken by Terry Richardson in the window for Valentino.

Sunday in Dumbo we were approached by Tim from Australia who most recently relocated to New York another follower.

One of the judges is from Refinery 29, a platform that Maggie has been involved with where she has some friends. I'm hoping this might give me a leg up because the Refinery 29 judge might be already familiar with my work.

What day is good for you?

Seems like this event gets bigger every year. The way this year is going September is not that far away.

Done. September Meet-Up is Sunday September 16th.

Last night I went to the opening for the Fence. The three founders of UPI were there and a handful of the artists featured on the "Fence." The Fence has grown and now will be displayed in 6 U.S. cities.

This all kinda started just 6 years ago and with some huge sponsors like Leica, PDN, Brooklyn Bridge State Park and others has become the biggest photo festival in the U.S. Pretty much was just an idea that went viral. Anyways I gathered the usual insider smut because I'm a smut queen. I already learned some helpful info on how the judging for the fence happens.

BTW I can see how Dumbo is kinda displacing the Photo District in Madhattan. I made a friend last night, another photographer, and I introduced myself to one of the founders. I also took notice that many in the 50 people group knew each other.

I expect this year's Photoville to be a lot bigger than even last year's. Already I can see some of the staging. It was reveated last night that Saint Ann's Warehouse is offering space to be part of Photoville.

Also my survey of Dumbo is that it is more fully built out and crowded with both tourists, residents and workers. More so than last year.

Looks like I got confused. Sept 17th, is the date for the 3rd Sun. in Sept., So . . . would that be the date? What about a meet-up place, before, during, or after? I don't know if they are going to have a place with tables, etc. this year. It get kinda crowded and hectic, Any thoughts on how to work this?

Sorry for the confusion. THE CORRECT DATE IS SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 17th.

This obviously is not a regular meet-up, and at noon we will "group-up" and try and see the 75 displays. The Carousel is the location for the grouping up.

I expect most of us will be there early to see the exhibits before it gets crowded. This is what I will be doing.

This year's Photoville is about a third larger than last years. There will be demos, panel discussions and other things to do.

There is a beer garden, and of course we will find something to eat.

This year's event looks to be about a third bigger. 75 displays this year. Saint Ann's Warehouse will be hosting Photoville events.

I already previewed The Fence. It is broken down to two sections. The second section is a bit ways south below Brooklyn Heights.

I think the crowds will be insane. Best to get there early to try and see everything. Might be too big to see in just an afternoon or morning.
