Please help. Contax G2 Shutter does not fire.

Was the sale through eBayl? If so then keep it with eBay. Paypal is your last resort.

Just present your case. You bought a camera advertised as working. It does not work. It is broken. Simple. Good luck.

If things do not go in your favor and want to repair it send me PM.I will help arrange for a repair here in Japan. Seems nuts, but a repair in Japan is your best option. There are a lot of G2s around and people who can fix it.

BTW I do not know the seller.

I'm curious why eBay forwarded this to PayPal. This sounds like a standard 'not as described' situation...but you should have no problem getting your funds back. You'll need to ship it to Japan first with some sort of tracking.

I've owned G1s and G2s for many years, so many times I can't remember. 🙂 Only one has had a similar problem and TOCAD fixed it for a flat fee.

But frankly this problem first happened when it was not loaded. I imagine "damaged the clutch on the take-up spool, preventing it from advancing properly." this can be a reason. Is it easy to fix? A repairman is needed for this I believe?

p.s. I will try the procedure you mentioned above. How can I change the setting to leave the leader out?

It's one of the custom functions you can set. To access the custom function menu, depress the ISO and focus lock buttons simultaneously and hold them until the LCD menu shows a blinking "1-0". Turn the focus dial on the front of the camera until the custom function number you want to change is indicated (there are 5 functions - the leader out is 3. To have the leader out, set function 3 to 1. Setting 3 to 0 means the leader is rewound into the cassette). There is a complete description of how to do this in the owners manual linked above - the custom functions setting section starts on page 172.

I never had any problems with things purchased with paypal, until this year, then two bad luck purchases, and fortunately, I had the paypal billed to my credit card who held the payment and it got everyone's attention down stream, though I did have to pay return shipping on a miss id'd RF Nikon that also looked as if it had been soaked in water for a few years before they dragged it behind the car by a chain?

Regardless, I hope you are not in to it for much, and they are terrific cameras which are going for very low prices-- I have bought five or so, gave two away. I was very impressed with the image quality, and speed and ease of use.

Hello! I have the same problem; I have a ContaxG2 and after my second us it got a motor sound when I press shutter and it does not fire... I'm in Spain and I sent to repair shop but since they didnt have extra materials for contax they couldnt fix it.

Do you know any repair shops speaking in English that I can contact or maybe send my camera.

As much as I loved my G2 I sold it recently before it develops some serious issues. I read too often about one or another critical issue (and lack of service availability). It’s too bad - in general it is such a great camera.

Try PPP in the UK. He seems to have some success with electronic issues on Contax G cameras. There is a lot of hype around him and my experience has been mixed.

I have the same problem when I use my 21/2.8. Originally I thought it was caused when I knocked the lens. I tried various means to rectify the problem by fiddling with the lens. I think I've solved the problem: on the body of the G2 near the lens mount there is a little knob which drives the lens. This knob sometimes needs to be reset or just twiddled a bit. It seems,so far, to work for me.
