Has anyone around here ever really had a battery fail (in a non-digital camera) at some crucial juncture? I never have in 20 years of shooting. I think that concern is way over-blown. It's just not a reality. You are more likely to run out of film when you most need it than run out of battery power. Think about it.

I've had the batteries on my MP fail and guesstimate the exposure. It's not a theoretical question. People who shoot in cold weather will also have more issues as batteries fail in the cold.
I don't know if a film camera is an investment, which is why I sold off my M6TTL and am down to a single film Leica body. B&W film will probably be with us for a very long time, but I am not so sure about the more complex E6 and C41 films.
I would get the much cheaper Zeiss Ikon instead. If you must have a Leica, get the MP for its traditional shutter that is more likely to be serviced in the future if Leica goes bust. Used M6 classic and M6TTLs are also an option to consider.
