If I wanted to buy (and I do) one of those small, thin, fit-in-a-shirt-pocket P&S digital cameras with an actual glass lens, which would be one of the better ones? I read a road test of the Nikon S3100 on Steve's Digicams. It's the right size, but apparently has unacceptable noise levels throughout the ISO range.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I see here so many great P&S-made pictures which make warm my heart - P&S were my first camera and I still have some hope and intereset in them.

Mine are mixed in with the others in the gallery. 90% of the time, a P&S works perfectly well. You have to second-guess what they will do with DOF, anything with discrete focusing steps gives results that vary from pin-sharp to ho-hum depending on how close the subject is to the exact plane of focus, and the lenses can have tremendous light fall-off if they're small in diameter.
The standout feature of my Ricoh FF-9 (available for about 5 GBP on eBay although I bought mine new in 1989) is that it will focus and make a correct flash exposure in total darkness, due to its active IR autofocus.

Todd, incredibly sharp G12 image. Just ordered an S95 just because it's pocketable. Had a G10 - just a bit too large for that.
