Wouldn't the shaprest lens be that one you've dropped and has a broken front element?

This may not have been considered due to it's scarceness, but the 50/3.5 Heliar is the sharpest CV lens that I've used.
I know that you can still purchase them from CQ in Nikon mount, but in M mount they're all but a collector's item now

The poll is nonsense, it only shows how many owners of particular lenses are presented in this forum

ROTFL!
Should I sacrifice my old Industar to make a "sharpest lens ever" ?

The CV cult is the Scientology/Mormon amen corner on ths site. Rene Descarte had it right about the will to believe.
So flame on you believers in The Legend Of Naught!
Sir! I declare war and draw out my sword against your papist religion, whose Pope is in Solms, and his faithful loyalist, who standing in line for hours waiting for an audience with the Bishops to lie that dreadful Red Dot on their blasphemous tounges....

This is really meaningless unless you have experience of all the lenses. I voted 35CS because I have it and I wanted to see the voting but I don't know whether it is sharper than other CV lenses or not.

I'd be interested in hearing how the 35mm Ultron compares with the ZM Biogon from anyone whose used both.

I guess I have to stick with those, don't I?lawrence said:So which is the olive oil and which is the vodka and why?
The 35mm Ultron is the "olive oil", and the 35mm Biogon is the "vodka": The Ultron goes well with those images you'd like to have an "artistic" light fall-off (commonly mistaken for "vignetting"), and is a bit soft wide open, with a propensity to flare (very bright highlights/reflections, strong sources of light). Mid-low contrast. It can muddy up some shadow detail.
The 35mm Biogon is crisp and clean, with a great crisp "punch", not in contrast, but in resolution. Treats light very nicely, cleanly. Will give you a nice slap in the face if you use it for portraits

Oh no, I wish you hadn't said that. I really don't want to add yet another 35mm

Hmmm, I've tried and/or owned the 21, 25, 28 Ultron (no 35's...strange!) 40/1.4 SC, (no 50's...even stranger!) 75, and the 90 and none of them were NOT sharp.
The 40 is so good that I sold my Aspherical Summilux 35 and don't want it back, even at the old, pre-M8 price. The 'lux is a 'bit' better, but only wide open and only for a whole lot more weight, size and money.

I find my 90/3.5 to be the sharpest of the octet of CV lenses that I own.
Incidentally, the sharpest lens I own is a 60/2.8 Macro lens for my Canon EOS. I find it sharper than even my Leica lenses.

The Sharpest CV Lens
The Sharpest CV Lens
The sharpest CV lens was not listed in the original poll. I just added it, the 50/3.5 Heliar.
Not only is it the sharpest CV lens, it is currently the sharpest lens EVER tested by Popular Photography. Look it up in the March 2002 issue.

while long sold out in Leica screw mount, it is still available in Nikon RF mount on the Nikon R2S NHS sets.

Here you go:
" Main Entry: lens
Variant: also lense /'lenz/
Function: noun
1 : a curved piece of glass or plastic used singly or combined in eyeglasses or an optical instrument (as a microscope) for forming an image
2 : a device for directing or focusing radiation other than light (as sound waves, radio microwaves, or electrons)
3 : a highly transparent biconvex lens-shaped or nearly spherical body in the eye that focuses light rays entering the eye typically onto the retina, lies immediately behind the pupil, is made up of slender curved rod-shaped ectodermal cells in concentric lamellae surrounded by a tenuous mesoblastic capsule, and alters its focal length by becoming more or less spherical in response to the action of the ciliary muscle on a peripheral suspensory ligament —lensed adjective —lens·less adjective"
