I am hoping someone else will jump in with some drum scans so I don't keep flooding this thread.

Been a while since I have done any photography, much less scanning!

Scanned on an Optronics ColorGetter Falcon.

So quite in here lately. I tend to shoot a lot less in winter because of the cold weather but I am really hoping to be able to go out and shoot more soon. Will keep this thread alive very soon 🙂

Hey James,

Scott from the USA, glad to see you posting. Haven't ran my ColorGetter In a while. I hope it still works?

When you start your scanner do you turn on the scanner first then the computer or is it the other way? Then when you shut down the scanner, is the scanner first then the computer.

Hi Scott - well, the controller PC itself is usually powered from the scanner itself so that when the scanner is switched on, the controller PC starts up and boots from the floppy disc.

Personally though, I didn’t like the thump arising from the inrush current to the controller, so I simply power it direct from the mains.

So my sequence is: switch on scanner, nothing happens until I then switch on the controller, it then boots up and boots the scanner. Finally, I boot up the Mac and start the scanning software.

Shutting down, I switch the scanner off then the controller.

I’d just give it a go - unless the controller has lost its settings, it should work.
 
Hi all. This is a very inspiring thread! I sent one of my Provia shots off to Danny Burk to test the drum scanning waters and he did a great job. I am not sure which model he uses but file was 4,000 dpi.

Anyway, glad to have gotten that done - it certainly won't be the last time. This is the first time I have resized and uploaded an image here so don't hold that against Danny - the full res scan is great.

I love this thread and the images everyone has been posting. I would post too if I had a drum scanner! Please continue doing so.
 
I am glad you are enjoying these Huss. Drum scanners are a pure joy to work with. Here is a fresh scan from an image I shot in summer of 2015 and somehow managed to never scan until tonight. Hope you like it!

Thank you Andreas! The 2nd building is the Towers at Harbor Court building in Baltimore at the intersection of Light and Lee street across from the harbor.

Regarding the 3D printed camera, I am currently testing it with a few photographers to incorporate their feedback and may be able to provide this camera in a limited quantity to interested photographers. It is designed to work with a 90MM lens and has ~18mm of helical focus that provides focusing from 3ft to infinity on my Caltar II 90mm f6.8 lens. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions about it.

Unfortunately I still haven't managed to make any new scans, but I have manged to redo the post-processing on this image to bring out the detail in the shadow of the boat and in the shaded parts of the buildings in the background. The transparency is very dense in these areas and probably underexposed, but the scanner has captured the detail nicely.

Now shown complete with camera damage and a small light leak, I still love the vibrancy of the colours!

Apia, Samoa, taken from Sogi on the way to Mulinu'u, 1966. Kodachrome, unkown camera (taken by my father). Scanned on an Optronics ColorGetter Falcon:
