On the left is Joseph De Freitas (Yonkers NY) of the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment in July 1944. On the right a current active US service member taken with a Leica IIIc and a 1938 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar LTM conversion with Double-X.

I spent some time talking to an elderly lady who lived across the street from this house. She said she remembered seeing the soldier cooking up the squad's rations and saw the photographer take the photo.
I showed her some other photos taken in the village on that day in 1944. Nearly couldn't get the book back from her

I was at a local `40`s weekend last week . Saw a chap with a three c and a Contax with a war time sonnar.
We got talking and your name came came up and he showed me this shot on his phone.
