price check on a d200?

$400-450 on fleabay.

I personally would recommend against it. YOu can get a d300 on ebay for $600 (rare but possible, and $700 common). The ISO is much improved. Having owned the d200, the size and weight are not worth the limitations. I would much rather have a d3100 that is lighter...and sacrifice some of the "pro" features that big ol d200 comes with. Your d90 ISO is better too, + video
 
i don't use the video at all and rarely use high iso...i tend to max out the d90 at 800 iso most of the time.

i'm thinking of a second body so i can have 2 lenses at the ready.
found one locally for $300. cdn.

the better weather sealing is a bonus for around here as well.
 
assuming it isnt beat to hell and or on the tail end of its shutter life, i'd say its a good deal and if you do not like it you can sell it for what you paid or even a tad more.
 
Joe, that's a great price, assuming reasonably low mileage and good condition. The going price locally in the SF Bay Area for a D200 is around $400 to $450. I"ve been thinking of getting a D200 to take advantage of the D200's ability to meter with ai/ais manual focus lenses. --Warren
 
i just googled the seller, she is a local baby and wedding photographer...there are a ton of women doing that here. she says the body is in excellent condition and is boxed with all original content.

could be worse...
 
Sounds like a no brainer. These were top of the heap a few years ago. Good luck with the new camera😉

Slightly off topic, but its possible to get top of the line stuff for very little money if you go back a couple of generations. I've been thinking about going retro for a while - I still use an Olympus E1 and I've just bought an R-D1. Hooray for progress 🙂

i have been reading up on the d200 and it has what i want. the newer models have plenty to brag about but i really have little need for their features for how and what i shoot.
as for the d200 being a bit heavier, it may be what i need for the 85/1.8 that seems hard for me to hold steady on the lighter d90.
 
An excellent choice, especially at that price. I used to have one and loved it, but at some point I needed to shoot high ISO's, so ended up getting a D700.
 
I would advise against it. You need a second body and not a primary one and need weather sealing. Get a D2H. You can get one for that price or slightly above on KEH

I have had a D200 since they were released. Yes, there are newer bodies with more advanced features, but if you don't shoot vid's and/or low light, they are a supreme machine. Mine has done everything I ever needed, and I wouldn't think of parting with it at the current prices. Mine has ~4500 clicks on it. If you can get a body with reasonable shutter count (they are good for 100K+) I think you would be very pleased with it. On the other hand, if you get one of those "little pea shooters" you might not be satisfied.
 
I think they have gone up in price recently! I have seen a few sell locally for $250 within the last 3 months. Looking Glass in Berkeley, CA had one used for around $500. I had actually considered selling mine for $300 last year, but I have been using it rather regularly to shoot Headshots.

The camera is pretty abysmal above ISO 640 (when compared to the GXR) but it handles like a pro body. Great camera for $300-450, but I would try and find the d300 for a bit more.
 
Also, as a studio camera / ASA 100-320 camera, the sensor is really good. Like great, in fact. I just wish I could get better performance around 800-1600.

The D700 is next on my list.

my original idea was to find another d90...i like 2 of the same bodies, but prices are much more than i want to spend. today, the d200 popped up and i made and offer at 300 and she accepted.
i much prefer to keep the price at no more than 300.
