Hi,
tonight I have to go to a boring party so, just to survive, i'll bring my Bessa+CV 21. Just because it has f4 as max. aperture I was thinking about pushing the film (hp5) up to 1600.
So, did someone here already try this experiment and have some results to share or tips about it?
Thanks any the help you would give,
ciao

Ciao Nico
I have one HP5+ in my BESSA - about 15 exposures left, and I have a plan to develope it +2 f-stops too ... did you read PDF about HP5+? It's on Ilford's web site - if I remember you have developing times and other stuff there.
Regards, Vlad.

Thanks a lot Vlad
,
but I'll have it developed from the lab. I'm just curious to see some results ...

I've pushed it to 3200 many times with success using D76, so I'm sure 1600 won't be that bad. Any idea what developer they're using at the lab?

You should be fine- if you can, ask for Microphen. That is the best developer for HP5 at any speed IMHO.
I run HP5 at 800 a lot and have beautiful results- 1600 ought to be fine.

Ilfords site shows HP5 can be pushed to 3200. There is a downloadable pdf file that give the needed data..

what's DDX?
I tried pushing the hp5 to 1600 with rodinal: bad idea for other situations, but I was at a jazz concert and the effect is... jazzy!

sorry, nico, but I haven't a scanner... I still print in my darkroom (luckily!)
but they have an high contrast, with blown highlights, and a lot of grain. (that is sometimes nice to see)

I'm with wintoid - DD-X and HP5 @ 1600 is great.
But the lab won't have any of this expenive chemical (or I will be suprised).
Give it a go nico, I've had lab processed hp5 + 1600 come out fine (HC-110, they used).
cheers,
kully

I used HC-110 a lot when I got back into 35 from LF, as it was my main developer then and did get some fine results pushing HP5 with it. I find a sparkle to the negs with Microphen that I don't get in anything else.
Wintoid- that looks like a stunning combo of film/iso/dev in your image- appears to have that sparkle in spaides. I'll add some DDX to my next order.

I have pushed up to ASA 1600 with DDX. No blown highlights, and enough shadow detail to satisfy me.

I constantly push my HP5 to at least 800, sometimes 1600. I develop with Sprint products and have only noticed a slight increase in contrast. It's a pleasant increase IMHO. Your 1600 shots should come out wonderfully. Good luck!

I'm with sepiareverb on this one. Microphen is an excellent developer, and HP5 is a fairly fast film which pushes well. I expect they were desgined with each other in mind. (I've had brilliant results with Tri-X pushed in Microphen, too, btw...)
You won't go wrong; or, you could. Either way.
