Hi, All!

I've just pulled the trigger for a Bessa R, and have a few conjectures/questions that I'd like some help with.

Firstly, I've been shooting C41 color negative film from the drug store with an old Kodak Signet 40 RF, scanning to computer, and making BW shots via my photo editor (Elements 4). Getting back into RF after many years of SLR and DSLR, and haven't given lots of thought to developing my own negatives. I got tired of THAT years ago, and don't think I want to go back.

My REAL question is...what easily available negative film, B/W C41 and Color C41 is the "standard" or "favorite" of the shooters on this forum? (Yeah, I know, my mileage may vary...).

I'll print my own stuff, and frankly, like the computer-aided darkroom workflow WAY better than a wet darkroom.

I'm sure I'll get deeper into the film questions after I've done some shooting with the Bessa...the recent re-discovery of my old Signet prompted the experimentation with drugstore film, etc., and as I still shoot with my Canon 10s along with my Canon DSLR, this might just be a sidebar, or might turn into a major interest...dunno yet, but a modern RF certainly appeals to me.

Sorry for the rambling...thanks for your time.

Regards!

I stick with Ilford films for B&W and Fuji for colour. Pro 800Z is the greatest thing in the world.

Hi Don, welcome!

You will end up with the complete list of all available films (maybe with some more Tri-X than the rest), but it's not my problem ;)

I'll throw in the Neopan 1600

fishtek - I'm with you on avoiding the wet darkroom. I use Kodak BW400CN. With the right settings on your scanner it scans beautifully and is very smooth. It lacks the classic grain pattern of "normal" B&W films, but I like the look.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Buster Brown dropped off the camera earlier this evening, between packs of trick-or-treaters. I'm putting it through my inspection process as I sit here, and so far, I'm quite impressed. I think this (relatively) cheap l'il piece of gear is gonna be lots of fun! Oh, and TimBonzi...although we'll never kick ya in the head, there's plenty of "dark side" stuff at our beck and call...

Regards!
Don
