RSE has always worked with my RD1s. Capture One didn't work at first but does now. The screw thing is a definite concern though, although my rangefinder is aligned (right now!!).

hint -for my taste the default sharpening on RSE is far too strong - I like to turn it right down to zero and then apply some in PS - YMMVwintoid said:RSE has always worked with my RD1s. I'm glad so many "new" members are enjoying the R-D1, and also have found the great Jupiter 8. I've shot a lot with that lens, on Bessa R and R-D1. Lots of these you can see here: http://shardsofphotography2.blogspot.com/ . Just rummage through the past PAWs.

Dangit, i need to watch that site more often. I'm still up in the air on if I am keeping this M8. Having the R-D1 would make that decision a bit easier.

Where do you get the discount code? I keep missing the in-stock message, and at the rate I'm going, it will be December before I'm lucky enough to get the timing right.

I got the code from the first post in this thread. When I applied it it said "Nov '06" so it *may* expire at the end of the month. Still worth a try.
I'm glad i came here and found the code, as it saved me $155 right off the bat!

The offer is up now, I just checked. I bought one on Thanksgiving. Looking forward to getting it this week.

I've seen a do-it-yourself guide to tweaking that VF somewhere on this board or DPR and it doesn't look difficult.

BTW, where and who or what is DAG? Can someone provide a link. Thanks.

I managed to get an order in. Bad news is that it only shows "Order under review", whatever that means. I'll have to wait until Monday to see if the order was sucessful or not.Joe Mondello said:And gone again an hour later!

I called as I had that same "Order Under Review" thing on Friday. I spoke with a guy named Michael and confirmed for him that I had entered my cell number instead of my home phone and if the phone number doesn't match the bank records, they put it on hold.
I got it straightened out thanks to Michael and the order of things then went to "Order is being Fulfilled" yesterday to "Shipped" today (Saturday). Best of luck with yours.

Well today (Sunday) I have a tracking number and FedEx is saying delivery Tuesday -- not bad for Free Ground Shipping! I thought it would take a lot longer.
BTW, I found a website that warns against using the 50mm f2 DR 'Cron on the Bessa R3A so I am *guessing* that this lens could be a poor match for the R-D1. Shoot! It's the only Leica lens I still have (the rest were stolen long ago).
So, after reading a number of things, I am thinking of the CV 35 1.7 as a good first lens for this cam. Am I on the right track? It's been a long time since I've shot with a RF.

My understanding is not that there is a problem with using the lens but more so with collapsing the lens. When collapsed it has a tendency to contact the shutter. I know that some R-D1 users in this forum have put an O-ring on the lens barrel to keep it from collapsing all the way.

I use the CV 35mm 1.2. I also have a 50mm Cron and 90mm Elmar Macro, but the CV is the the only 35mm that I have. It stays on the camera all the time as I really like the 50mm equiv. field of view.

Some helpful links:
www.aignes.com has a program called Web Watcher, which enabled me to snag an R-D1 yesterday. I had it set to check the Epson website every 5 minutes on a running computer and send an SMS to my cell phone when it changed.
http://www.couponcabin.com/coupons/epson/index.htm has coupons for Epson products (obviously, other items as well if you recurse the URL). The 10% off code (6ZNAXFP) is good until Dec 31st, 2006.
hope this helps!
now waiting for my R-D1 and CV Nokton 50/1.5 to arrive...

Fantastic first post! You're gonna make some folks here very happy. Thanks.
So about those lenses . . . looking at Cameraquest I see the 35 1.2 is pretty big physically while the 35 1.7 is much smaller and the 40 1.4 smaller still.
I also like the "50mm" FOV and my favorite lens on my Nikon D200 is the 28mm 1.4 so perhaps the 28 1.9 might also be good for me. I love low light shooting and wider is almost always better for me.
This should be a fun week around here as these Thanksgiving Day R-D1s start showing up!
Thanks for the info on the 50mm DR. I'm having it sent up from Florida by my brother so I'll get a chance to give it a shot -- assuming it hasn't gone all hazy!

endustry said:Joe,
If we see you tonight, my wife will bring her Bessa R3a and 40mm Nokton. The R-d1 is basically a Bessa so the combo of her cam/lens will be pretty representative of the R-d1. Keep in mind that a 40mm = a 60mm on an R-D1, though.
If you want a more relaxed setting in which to try out various CV lenses, check out Photovillage down near the Flatiron Bldg. They have the whole line of CV lenses and are usually pretty chill (unlike B&H).
Thanks Aaron. I'll PM you regarding tonite or call you later.
I've been looking for a place other than B&H and Adorama for these lenses so it is really good to know about Photovillage.
