When I first looked thought the VF, it seemed to me that the bright lines for the various FLs were just way off, but after mounting a lens, everything seems fine.
Just about everybody has the same reaction. The framelines move diagonally to compensate for parallax, and when there's no lens on the camera, they move all the way to the full-closeup position. Looks really wacky until you get used to it.

I seem to recall CameraQuest having a case they said would work, but am not positive. I'm sure Stephen would be happy to advise.
Last time I checked, late last week, the Epson Store still had the skookum R-D 1 batteries in stock, so I ordered one. Just about everyone seems to concur that these give considerably more shots per charge than third-party batteries, so it's probably worth the price (about fifty bucks) to get at least one as a spare.
I've had pretty good luck with the "Emerging Power" brand batteries I bought, but they don't last nearly as long as the Epsons so I normally start out with the Epson battery in the camera and then switch to the third-party ones. Once I have my second Epson battery, I expect I'll use the third-party batteries only as backups.
Some people also have reported that the camera will hang when using some third-party batteries, and someone who had that experience and checked with Epson posted here that he was told it's important to use the Epson battery. My guess is that some (but not all) third-party batteries may have the correct voltage and total mAh ratings, but don't produce enough
instantaneous current to get the camera all the way through its firing cycle. If you have a third-party battery that causes the camera to hang up even once, I'd suggest throwing it away and getting either a real Epson battery or at least a different third-party brand.
