I purchased a grey Bessa R2A body yesterday from my local store, and I've been pretty damn happy with it. It's met all my expectations, and as the newest camera I've ever bought I'm pleased with my purchase.
I use a Nikon FM2n as my main camera, and got this body to compliment it. I already had a lens purchased previously. The control layout is pretty much exactly the same as my FM2n, right down to the door lock lever and method of opening the back, so I dont see any problem using this along side it.

However, my Door Lock Lever doesn't engage. Usually you pull this lever back and lift up the rewind crank to open the back, but the rewind crank lifts up freely and the lock wont engage no matter how I work it. Does anyone have any advice? Beween the lock lever and the rewind crank there seems to be a small brass plate. Is this intended to be removed? I'm not about to start taking things apart, and I wont get back to the store until next week, so I thought I'd ask here.

It's not a fatal flaw, but it throws off my usual shooting habits and feels awkwardly loose.

Thanks.

If you can, I'd get it exchanged. Before that you may wish to exercise the lever a little. I know that mine was a little stiff in engaging/disengaging when new.

I'll see what my store can do, this is sort of why I bought locally to begin with, the 2 year Australian warranty is nice to have. So the little brass plate is normal?
I've exercised the lock mechanism fairly well, but it just doesnt seem like it's even coming close to locking anything.

Could you post a picture? I assume the plate you are talking about is the circlip - yes, that is normal.

Reading your later posts - I would do as Jon recommends and wiggle the rewind post a bit and also turn it around to see if it drops down.

But. You shouldn't be having this from a new camera so I'd take it back to the store.
