Hi,

Just purchased a 2/50 Jupiter 8 lens for my R3A. Knowing that I need an adapter, I sent an inquiry to a place that offers them. They said they were available, but also said "you also need a lot of luck. the lens may or may not focus properly on the 3A"

Should I worry about this? Where/what is the best place in the US to get an adapter?

Thanks

Hello, what they may have meant is that you need a good example of the Jupiter i.e. it's the quality control issues of the lens rather than any problem with m39 Russian lenses focusing on M mount cameras. saying that I've only personally had problems with Jupiter 3's in m39.

The issue is the lens, not the adapter or the 3A

1) quality control is notoriously poor in Ruskie 39mm screw mount lenses, not the
adapter or the 3A body. In contrast, QC seems to be much better in the Kiev mount
35mm lenses.

2) there is also some question whether or not Ruskie 39mm lenses are truly
compatible to standard 39mm Leica mount tolerances. Some say yes, some say no.

The bottom line is that you are not going to know how it will work out, until you
try your lens on your 3A.

Stephen.

What Stephen says is correct, but if you check the gallery and surely keep tabs on this thread I suspect that you will find a whole slew of people who are greatly enjoying their Jupiter 8 lenses on all kinds of bodies. I have had two which have worked fine on my Bessa and Leica bodies for example.

Mine have been the later black models by the way. There may have been more variance in the mounts of earlier lenses perhaps.
