Hi guys, I plan to get back the RD1x I sold sometime ago and would like to check who likes better the rendering of the RD1 vs. Fuji. I am also planning to get the X100T but at roughly lesser cost I can get my RD1x back. I know the 6 mp vs 16 mp may count for those cropping and large printing but I never print anything larger than A3. :bang:

What's your focal length preference? To me that would be a primary decision maker between these two cameras which share enough MP for most uses, and great IQ. Sure the Fuji has more of each, but the Epson works well if the conditions are not too demanding.

35-50 is my preference, getting to like 28 due to my long usage of several Ricoh but I feel limited specially in portrait. I owned the RD1, RD1s and RD1x and the most used is my 35 cron V4. I don't have that anymore but still have the VC 28, Hex 50 and 40 cron, I should be n the range with these lenses. I also had the original X100 and love it but the slower AF has somewhat been a deal breaker for me as I do a lot of street shoot. I guess the question really is who has the better color rendition, the B&W OOC of RD1 IMO is far better than X100.

to me the question is more about user experience than results--at least it seems so from how you framed the issue. both systems are going to yield very good results, which you realize already. both have film like color qualities and both imo lead the league in b&w. both are excellent with skin tones. so really on pure IQ in good conditions for your purposes its a wash.

the obvious difference is af vs mf and no one can help there.

the next 'obvious' difference is high iso, depending on which fuji you get, 6400 is very useable vs 1600 which is very useable on the rd1. i personally found fuji overrates their iso, so to my unscientific feel, 6400 on fuji would equal 3200 on the rd1 if such a thing were possible. IOW, its about a one stop difference between fujis and epsons iso ratings.

my fairly inexpensive solution for some time has been to have the now cheap original x100 as an af/high iso complement to my rd1. if thats not for you, again, i think the essential issue is your personal evaluation of the user experience. if as i do you get really jazzed by using the rd1's ovf and rf focusing then dont overthink it and just get the rd1; if not then you should go for fuji.

both do colour fantasically…but the rd1 colours are old world, like agfa film used to be…fuji colours are brighter, more modern.

Two very different cameras...which is why I use both. This said, the R-D1, s and x produce a signature look, especially when used with Voigtlander glass.

Sample color from my orig X100, agree it's no slouch

Seems to me RD1 has the edge nearer to film like rendition. Will browse over all the files of this 2 system as I'm still undecided.

I've just been looking at some of my R-D1, Fuji X100 and Xpro1 shots and the above is as good a description as any. However, the Fujis have more dynamic range.

Never owner eitehr, but I always been amazed by the Epson colors... their secret sauce is legendary in my book. Up there with Foveon sensors and other landmark color renderings.

I sold my RD1 to get the Xpro thinking it would be a better match to my original X100. While they did work together okay I no longer have the Xpro. How I wish I still had the Epson though. Thinking of parting with my OMD EM5 Elite to raise funds to replace it.

Did some focus check with the 40 cron nothing to show about and it really looks very good. Focus is spot on. Will take real shots this weekend and see how it goes.

I had the RD1, RD1s and RD1x and now going back. Go Kuvvy and find a good RD1 better if the x.

Owner of Fuji X-E1 and R-D1x. Great combo. Very dark environment / close focus for a Nikkor 50mm with the X-E1, otherwise the Epson!

first thing i do after i win the lotto is get a new rd1x...
you guys are making it very hard not to miss my old brace of rd1 bodies...
now i just daydream about which lens i might put on it!

i trying to save a few bucks and head out to toronto & new york in the spring...saving is not my favourite thing or something i do well...

Tried the RD1x I used to own with a 40 cron, no sharpening, in-camera B&W , all at ISO 1600. Raining all day nothing much here just testing the camera.
