I am a registered alien..
Saw some used R-D1x(G) at Map Camera and Fujiya camera in Tokyo in the last weeks. Map Camera has still them on their website..
Some Bic Camera or Yodobashi camera stores also have them still for the new price of ca. 270.000JPY.
I would take one, but the not flippable screen turns me off. So I will rather invest my money in some more film equipment and use my R-D1 in "stealth mode"

Is there an English version of these stores?

Unfortunately not, Gil.
Here's the Fujiya Camera webpage for new R-D1xG kits. My how prices have dropped.

Would I be strung up if I were to say that the Sony NEX 7 just might suffice as a successor to the R-d1?

No, but it would be wrong to say so, because the NEX 7 is not a Rangefinder. It may be a very good camera, but is not and will never be a RF.
Also it does not have the cool analogue dials and shutter-recharge-lever... ;-)

Thanks Jon. I hope someone here will sell though.

FYI, I had mine for 2 years (bought 2nd hand with warranty). No issue. The rangefinder has not moved, it's always been a bit off vertically but I do not worry, it will have its service soon when I get to Paris (they adjust the RFF there, in Photo Suffren). The VF patch is not perfectly horizontal but the frames are, good then, no need to bother.
The R-D1 needs normal care as any other camera, mine is fine in its Billingham bag and it has travelled a lot of miles.
I hope that you find a good one soon, it is a classic.

I just pushed the button at Adorama. Nice to know that some guys from here saw and held in their hands that same RD1x. Btw, is the RD1x without the grip? I am thinking the RD1xg is the one with grip.

Congrats Gil! Its not possible to buy a new R-D1x without the grip, so a grip should be included if you bought new.

Jon I got it from Adorama used so it should have the grip (hopefully). Thanks Jon!

:bang: So your the one that bought it!
Lol, I've been eyeballing that one for awhile now and it's been killing me not to get it. It's been a toss up between that camera or lots of off camera lighting gear, I guess I know what I'll be getting now.

Congrats on the purchase , looking forward to seeing the results you get with it.

I am AT least the 3rd owner of my RD1s, have had it 2-3 years and has been my daily shooter for most of that time. The RD1x is as good as it gets, thats why they sell for the price that they do. And Epson has cont'd repair/support for the RD1 line in Japan for a VERY reasonable price with a good rep for turn around ...... as compared to Leica.
If the x doesnt please you, you will be waiting a VERY long time for a replacement at that price point, such that you will be missing out on a lot of great experiences you could have had with an x, or even a RD1 for that matter.
In any case, good luck on your search.
EDIT: there is a gent named Milo on the boards who uses the "x", and if I remember correctly, he had the RD1 first, then got the x and sold the RD1, and is quite happy with his rig. I told him I wanted first dibs on the "x" should he ever decide to let it go!

I've spent some time with an RD1 foolishly sold it and got an M8.2. I'm sure I'll enjoy the RD1x so excited to have it in my hands.
@Christian, yes I was the one been looking for this for a long time, I missed the one at Matsuiya a few months back.

Honestly I couldn't believe it sat there as long as it did, I've been eying it for what feels like three weeks.
Truthfully I'm happy for you that you bought it, I wouldn't be doing it justice letting it sit around as I'm going to be pretty busy with life in general for the next few months. Well I also really do need a proper lighting set up for my Dslr for family and friend stuff. Banging away with just two speedlites doesn't really achieve the results I'd prefer now that I've played with strobes.

Thanks Christian, I'll get to use it fairly often I believe.
What I mean is I was trying to get a decent one for some time already. This post started long time ago even before I got my the 1st RD1.

Wow, really nice! Mine looks like a war-photographers camera, since I have it nearly every day with me on the bicycle.
Looks also very good with the summilux. Have fun and show results!
