recent mp owners...

My 2 cents:

It´s a special offer by Leica to build a black chrome MP if you order a la carte. If you want something special they charge extra money. That are simply the rules of buying Leica. Sorry for the users.

Thomas

Edit: the black chrome should look the same as with M6/7.

Hi Joe -

I haven't been around much lately, but just got some thoroughly informative replies to an earlier thread I started, so i'm happy to be back! Hope you are well.

I've had my MP for a little over a year and a half. Bought it (along w/ a new 50 'cron) from Tony Rose back in March 2006 - great service.

I love the camera. But it's my first, and only, Leica. My first rangefinder, which I had for about 6 months before buying the MP, was a Canon P, your former favorite (bought from KEH). The P is great, as you know, but it was an amazing experience upgrading to the MP. It has really changed my photography and been a constant joy to use. I constantly wish I had more time to shoot! What a great finder! What smooth action!

My MP currently needs adjustment for two issues: 1) rewind knob is slipping (not a big issue); and 2) shutter won't fire unless film advance lever is pulled out after winding.

The 2nd issue particularly annoys me as it takes away from the smooth action of the camera and causes me to miss shots, unless I think to move the lever out.

Clearly the camera needs an adjustment. Shouldn't be a problem, as it's under Passport, but I am so, so reluctant to give it up! I am also concerned that Leica NJ will sit on it for 1-2 months!

So I am beginning to think about the M3 route, but that's a subject for another thread, I suspect.

My Canon P, which mostly sits unused (unless I find a reason to shoot 3200 film, which I keep in it), is still fun, and feels good, certainly very, very solid. And I love going "meterless". But I don't like the clutter of the 3 framelines in the finder. And although I focus rangefinders faster now, I still miss the sharp contrasty RF patch of the MP when I try to focus my P.

So I begin to wonder if I need a meter in my camera at all, and wonder if I simply wouldn't prefer a more "classic" M.

Wondering how you're liking your Zeis Ikon, and why you gave up the P, and then the M3, if I remember correctly?

Best,
-Mark
