I just purchased a used Voigtlander 50/2.5 Color Skopar lens. The lens looks to be in very good condition. However, I can't unscrew the round lens hood; it seems to be 'frozen' onto the lens body. Has anyone here at RFF had this kind of problem with a Voigtlander lens? If so, were you able to solve it, and if so, how?

It appears that I can screw a lens filter onto the lens without removing the lens hood. Is that correct?

And finally, this lens is the silver version. Does Voigtlander make a silver colored square shade for the lens, or does it come only in black. I can't tell by looking at the CameraQuest site.

Thanks for your help.

The shade can be near-impossible to remove if you grip it tightly - the usual way to remove it is to put the lens cap on and then gently turn the lens cap.

Only black.

Agree with previous posters- put the lens cap on to remove the hood. Sounds counter-intuitive, but works!

i 'pinch' the hood and just grab it in one place and turn, usually comes off easily.

also, i'd be interested in your impressions of this lens after taking a few shots.

not sure about hood colours.

Success!!

Success!!

Well... I'll be ****... it works!! I put the lens cap on and the hood comes right off. What is the physics behind that???

Thanks for the help, folks. :)

with the cap on, the pressure is universal around the hood, with it off, unless you have a very light touch, the pressure is on the 2 spots where you grap the hood and turn, this makes for uneven pressure and the hood will not turn.
that's why pinching works also as the pressure is applied only in one place.

Dear Jamie,

If you try without the cap, you distort it slightly. With the cap, it stays round and is easier to unscrew.

At least, that's what I reckon.

Edit: I see Joe got in quicker with much the same argument.

Cheers,

R.

In the meantime- I've just loaded six images taken with a Skopar 50mm f2.5 on my own Flickr pages at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikkormat plus a few comments. (There are also some 1954 3.5cm f3.5 Summaron photos there too, in my Leica Set)

Overall: a decent lens and very 'handy' on a Barnack ....
