man, talk about a whirlwind!
i like what i see so far though i am thinking a bit differently on some things.
i like gene's idea about the back cover, cool & creative.
front cover - maybe a montage of some of the photos inside
i actually like the idea of a smaller book, of course this from a guy who prints his 6x6 negs at 5x5 inches.
i prefer b&w only - only because i see rf photgraphy as a
b&w medium.
as for helping...i'm a pretty good writer/editor/proof reader though i like gene's idea of a communal process.
please note, i hate capitols and ignore proper grammer.
these are just some thoughts and thanks richard- great going!!
oh ! the title, i like the rangefinder part, cautious about the harvest in that will some pick it up looking for farm/fall type pics?
is there another word or phrase that might convey a similar meaning?

I'm interested. The problem is I haven't got any photo worth published. I don't think my photography skill can improve that much in the following weeks.
I hope Charles is joining in. The book won't be complete without his April Dawn photos.

Kris, it's not all about 'super good photos' - it's also about coming together and see if we can pull this off as a team
- That and showing off some RF-camera photos
So...are you in or out?

Maybe we could follow Lewis Carrol and call it "Fit The First" -- to be followed by "Fit The Second" etc
I don't mind Harvest but I see what you mean, Joe. It could pick up false hits on a search.
Maybe something like Gallery One ??
Titles are hard...

Wow, great response from you guys.
Ok, here's the lay of the land:
* To get this all wrapped up in four weeks I will be taking some decisions to move us forward - but I am hoping that the vast majority of them will be made as collabortaive efforts. And if there is ANY decision you are not comfortable please let me know - this is to have FUN and to produce something we can all be proud of
* We have 9 confirmed particpants so far. Great!
* Working name is "Rangefinder Photography: First Harvest"
I'm with Joe though on that maybe a different word with the same meaning?
* It will be a glue-back book
* It will be the larger sized book if they are able to do it in colour
* It will be colour (even though just like Joe I see things more in b&w) - this gives both b&w and colour guys the ability to submit photos and I've seen some great photo books with the same mix.
* There will be no 'theme' apart from that your photos MUST be taken with a RF camera.
I nominate PETER as the 'owner' of the foreword.
Peter, please work up a working draft of how this foreword could look and use all the participants to bounce it off for ideas/suggestions, etc.
GENE - I would love for you to work on assembling the PDF file. The two weeks will work great as well as there wont be anything to do in that area for atleast 2-3 weeks anyway. Thanks!
I like the idea about having a short mini-bio at the back a lot!
For cover, foreword and final PDF layout let's make this as much as group effort as we possibly can.
Oh - and if people could send me their email addresses to aperture (at) gmail.com that'd be great. Note: Your email address will be made available to the rest of the participants on this project unless you tell me it should be kept private.
Sounds easy huh?
That's because it is!!!
PS: I'm working on a central location for all files such as forewords, cover, pdf, sample text, etc...

I'm in, if I have time to take two good RF street photos before the deadline. How soon do we have to say if we can deliver something or not?
Since my R2 has been broken for 3 of the 4 months I've had it and I got my Leica just a few days ago I haven’t had much chance to use them yet, most (all but two) of my photos are taken with an slr. :/

Biber - you're IN
Kris - you're IN
The definition of IN is that you are committing to being able to have two photos - taken with a RF-camera - scanned and delived by 9/30/04. That gives you another 2 1/2 weeks
Note - that deadline is still 'soft' and can most likely be extended with a week for a few late straddlers.
But if you have serious doubts that you will be able to have something in say three weeks time from now then please let me know.
Fun!
(and Kris..yes..secretly I am also hoping for some Dawn photos...)

If you are willing to accept a complete newbee to rangefinders, count me in. It will give me an excuse to go out shooting instead of doing my chores.

Yes front, back and edges if need be.
Any ideas, anyone?

Actually, I was thinking that the word harvest isn't so bad in the title. Especially, if the cover is a photo of a bunch of rangefinder cameras grouped together as if they had just been harvested.

Update:
We now have 13 confirmed participants so we've already filled half the slots. Looking good!
Also....
For us to be able to collaborate on files and share information without spamming poor RFF's forum I've set aside a 100 meg or so at Pbase.
It's a file folder that will hold;
- updated status overview (you can easily see who is participating - and if they are willing to share it - also their email address), what the main issues are at this point (and feel free to jump in and take ownership of any!)
- samples of what the 'text blurb' per photo may look like
- drafts of front- and back cover (once there is a draft email it to me at aperture (at) gmail.com and I'll post it
- drafts of forewords (same deal, email and I post).
There is also a discussion tool per file folder so we can have discussions in the folders themselves. You'll see...its easier to see than to describe it.
So far it's open for anyone but once we have 'the 25' it will be locked down and you will be given the password (hence I need your email addresses)
There's just a shell right now with the first status document - but bookmark this site for future use if you're a participator in this project: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/rf_boook_project

i preferred the idea of the cameras on the back cover, with a representative image or images on the front. just my $.02. this is exciting. thanks for riding herd on this richard!
photo-editing is definitely not my strong point, coming up with two should be a good excersize.

Hey, I went away for a couple hours and wow. This is great guys. I am willing to help in any way. I am a computer user, and do not have the know how to really do stuff, but I have the will. If anyone needs help with a project or wants to ask a question, feel free to volunteer me.
Richard, what format do the images need to be delivered in? What are you thinking about for a blurb for each? (this may have been covered and I have to be more attentive in my reading) I assume we should have some uniform standards. Do we have an editor of any of this? Photos, words? Can someone bring me a real scanner and scanning knowledge so I can make my picture nice?
I have to do some reading to catch up to you guys.
