At first, I thought that there can't be top plates on the list, but otherwise, how can we possibly know what happend to the camera with that exact number...
Let me know, if you will do some frankenleica with that top plate, and post pictures of it here... I think it will be right thing to do...

Just to clarify the top plate by itself ( 781 440 ). It's the original top plate to the Jagitsch Black Paint M3 that has serial number 703 492. I bought the 703 492 for the paint job so I could save the original top plate.

Thanx for keeping a record of all the cameras.

As for a frankenleica--there is a plan I'm working on with DAG. A metered M3 😉
 
Hi all. Let me be next on the list with my M2.
Funny thing is that according to Cameraquest Leica M serial numbers list mine is supposed to be an M1 camera. But it's definitely an M2 as you can see 🙂

I don't get it... You have two cameras - one is for paint job, wich is done, and is on the list, and the other one is dissambled on piaces - there's a top plate, that you have showed... So, I assume, that it will be that metered M3 you are now working on with DAG?.. Is this right?..

If so, then I don't understand why you mixed those top plates?..

MaZo, could you PLEASE write your info as in example in the first post?.. Cause I don't want to make any mistakes on the list, so please... 😉

And could you please tell where did you get that rewind crank, and how much did you pay for it?..

No, I think it's just a mistake in CameraQuest list... Because that camera looks just like M2...

DAG had this part in his inventory, so I bought it for around $70

I'll try to make this a bit more clear.

I purchased a M3 with the top plate number 781 440. I also purchased a top plate numbered 703 492 only--no camera just the top plate. I sent the M3 ( 781 440 ) and the top plate ( 703 492 )--and a new bottom plate--to Robert Jagitsch and requested that he switch the top and bottom plates and paint the new parts I sent him and reassemble.

I think this could also be used to assist in any lost or stolen cameras - this would be very handy for that - just be wary of any privacy concerns. Mine will show up shortly.

I think, i understand... So, what will you do with those parts, wich are not repainted?..

Dave, we have talked about it on the 5th page i guess... Yes, there is a possibility, that someone might find some stolen cameras... But here again... I don't know what to do in this pesky situation (IF it will happend)... Cause, i really beleave, that guys sitting here are 99,9% no thieves, so I don't know, how to say "Hay you!.. Give me back my camera!". And why someone will do so... How can you be possibly sure, that guy wich posses your camera, and had it on the list... How can you be sure, that's exactly HIM who stole your precious tool... There is quite a big chance, that it was several times reselled...

So...

1) Yes, you can prove, that it was your camera, and you have the documents. BUT!.. I could by some papers and boxes on the ebay or any yard sale, and claim that whoever holding camera with XXXXXXX number - is a thief!
2) Yes, there will be somehow fine with point №1, BUT how can you make someone by hiw own will send his camera to person who says it belongs to him?.. Even if you are in one town, there is no information about where exsctly every owner of the camera on the list is living.
3) For those who still afraid - I've maid a GREEN statement on the first post.

Not looking at this as a "oh.. there's MY camera that was stolen from me!!" point of view.

Basically, what you're doing is creating a "database" of the camera model, serial number, current RFF user name and owner information. Hence this is data that can be referred to in case one of the CURRENT owners had their camera stolen.

I am not inferring that anyone here has stolen ANY of these cameras - that was NOT my intent.

Dave, I get your point!..

And, if someones camera from the list will loose itself somehow (hope not, but what if), i will put a red sign near it "Stolen" and the date...
