Having hardly touched digital for a couple of years, I've found myself pining for a digi pount-'n'-shoot for those casual situations where the Leicas are too much to worry about/carry, and my ind turned to the GR-D.
The samples I see online, and the half-hour I spent in a shop playing with one the other day, have convinced me that when I managed to scrape the cash together it will be the one.
It feels just right in the hand.

I'm surprised they were all from the GRD because I see shallow DOF in many of the shots.. did you apply any DOF effects to them?

Mirror- I just ordered a GRD from Tony at Popflash with the intent to bring it along with my GR1s to Kenya and Tanzania.. I've opted for portability and weight without compromising too much on lens quality and control... I'm planning to trek Kilimanjaro and don't intend to take any other camera equipment except three rolls of Reala100 and my Holga...
did you find sand/dirt etc to be a problem with the GRD? any suggestions on how to make it more 'weatherproof'? in the past I've used zip lock bags with cutout for lens when trekking through the Sahara with my Hassy SWC - but i haven't had to deal with such issues with a point & shoot ...
any other suggestions (how many batteries? how long does a battery last? with LCD disabled? etc... would be welcome..

Mirror - thanks for the thoughts and i may take you up on your offer to answer more questions.. i'll have to look for the hood... does it take up a lot more space? portability is a concern on the Kili trek...

Bought a 37mm IR 093 filter to try on the GRD. Handheld, so not too sharp:

the filter ring says it has a factor of 20 to 40x.
i had the camera set at iso 800, in full sunlight and was shooting at 1/50 & aperture of 2.4.

What filter did you use? I'm thinking of getting the lens extension tube for the GRD that allows 37mm threaded filters.

it's a b+w 092 ir filter.
mine's a 39mm intended for the cv lenses. i just held it against the rim of the lens of the grd.

Well I've gone and bought one, I was looking at the site of a dealer who had GRDs at least £50 cheaper than most and £100 cheaper than some others. Suddenly something clicked. It was the mouse.
It arrived this morning and this after I took it for a walk, and bought a little pouch to keep it in. I expected it to be small, but not that small. Not too hard to use after a year or so with the Gx8, I even read some of the manual.
Posted below is one of the straightest pics. It was very sharp in it's original form and I haven't altered it.

I picked up a gr-d used over a year ago. So far it has travelled with me as I backpacked through europe, it was with me on an extended stay on the Greek island of Ikaria, and it never failed me. The only time I got unacceptable photos from it was when I and my friends ended up at a wedding and someone kept feeding me homemade wine.
Not the camera's fault.

That gallery has slightly higher res versions of the attached photos, plus one extra. The Gr-d is a great tool, and I'm looking at buying a gx100 and using them both in my travel kit as my Olympus c-5060wz is getting a bit long in the tooth. As much as I love my Leicas, digitals aren't prone to accidental bumps knocking the focussing mechanism out of tolerance. Forgetting to put my swiss army tools in my checked luggage going from dubrovnik to zabreb meant that I couldn't fix my m2 when that happened, and I was forced to rely on my digitals.
No viewfinder? Noise? Who cares? It takes great pictures.
