plus, i have been longing for it for at least 6 years.
At least, we cannot accuse you of being hasty! The RD1 with the 40 sounds like a very nice set-up.

Congrats Joe
looking forward to seeing the results you get. It's an nteresting lens for sure and a safe investment should you not like it.

this may be the last lens that i buy...
OK I'm quoting you, if you buy anything else, you'll need to do it under an assumed name.

benny, you seem very familiar with this particular set up...
I am quite a fan of the Rollei 35RF system. Besides the 40mm Sonnar, the 80mm Planar is also a stellar lens although it's often overlooked. On the R-D1, I find the 50mm frameline to be more accurate than the 35mm frameline for the 40mm Sonnar.

Grats on your purchase.

Congrats, Joe!
This is one of my most used lenses. I use it for backpacking. The center of the image is incredibly sharp, less so towards the corners. Extremely compact, it appears to have the same build as the CV 28/3.5, with which it shares the same filter size (and would make an excellent two lens pair).
When Joe gets a thread up I'll post some pics too.

of course i will be at work but might be able to get it after work if the local postal station gets it into the computer quickly. (they usually do)
and i have next week off...

Interesting observation - the original hood for the Rollei looks a lot like the LH-2 hood for the CV 50/2.5 and 35/2.5 LTM Skopars.

There are few of them available lately from Japan on the big auction site. The price seems came down somewhat. It's certainly a very special lens. I enjoy using mine on M8 and Panasonic GH1.

it's here
it's beautiful
it's starting to rain...
but that's a sign of good luck on the prairies (for weddings anyway)
now to finally decide what to partner it with...
