California (Bay Area, Northern) San Francisco Holiday Photo Shoot?

Alas, chances are not great that I'll make it, but if I don't catch you all this time, then next time in 2010.

OK, camera choices made. Looks like it's going to be a "G1/GF1" kinda day with some old school lenses making an appearance.
 
looks like I can make it, but I won't be there until after noon (12:30-ish). I might catch up in the museum, or I might shoot and meet you on exit (since I've seen the show and haven't shot in a couple of weeks).
 
I'll be the first to say it. That really sucked! 😉 j/k of course. Good seeing you all. I was pumped to find out that a couple of other RFFers found the Fukase images as fascinating as I did. I like the Japanese Postwar exhibit, but I keep finding myself returning to the earlier work (the work in the first section of the exhibit). Moriyama is a favorite.

The shooting was pretty good too. The late rain and diminishing light was a drag.

Anyway, that was fun. How'd it go at the Ferry bldg?

I agree that the earlier work was the best. After the museum I got separated from the group when I stopped to get something to eat. I thought an egg salad sandwich would be quick; I didn't know they'd have to boil the eggs.

The low light and rain made shooting difficult, not much fun at all. I developed one roll, but it looks very underexposed.

I didn't make it to the Ferry building because of the rain. Did anyone make it?
 
Nice meeting with all of you. I didn't make it to Ferry Building and totally missed the rain altogether (guess it started sooner up in SF than down south).

The contemporary Asian photography was alright, but it was a bit disappointing. I was looking through the book on current photography in Asia that was chained to the table outside the exhibit and it sure seemed to me that a lot of exciting art is happening there, but the SFMoMA just didn't have a representative collection on show. Being somewhat of a Cindy Sherman freak (yeah I love self-portraits), I really liked the photo by Yasumasa Morimura.

Yeah anyway, it was fun meeting everyone and walking around.
 
I didn't make it to the Ferry Building either. I needed to be somewhere at 4pm, so I had to go home early. My friend, Dan, and I split off from the main group after the museum and walked over to the plaza in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum, then over to the south side of Moscone Center by the ice rink, and finally to Union Square before going home.

It was nice to meet everyone, but I look forward to a "beer and gear" type of event in the future where there is more of an opportunity to chat and get to know everyone (and check out the gear more carefully).

I enjoyed both the Postwar Japanese Photography exhibit and the contemporary stuff. It's always inspirational to me to view exhibitions.

I didn't even get to make it out -- I shot a wedding Saturday and was so tired I slept through a large part of Sunday! Glad to see some people got out, however bad the weather may have been. I'd like to see an official Beer & Gear meet sometime in the near future.

..I was there...at the museum, enjoyed it again...one big print, a very dark landscape/seascape with facets of wavelets against a long concrete breakwater...don't remember the photog, definitely a fave.
fortunately..Kevin handed me a roll of film to shoot, seeing as how I'd come unprepared with only a camera but no film...and I shot the whole 36 roll...but I have to say, i can see why he gave it to me, had to be some of the worst film I've ever used....Kevin probably thought it'd be funny to give it away...grainy..soft throughout, toatally washed out with no contrast...geez, horrible stuff....then again, ... I did get 5 or 6 frames that i like.😉
The darkening sky and drizzle was pretty nice, just perfect for the last afternoon before the shortest day of the year...

Well, I didn't quite make it to the Ferry building, but the exhibit was worth seeing. (although I was less impressed with the contemporary asian photography part of it, I missed seeing that book Reese found unfortunately...), and it's always worth meeting up with everyone.
I ended up meeting back up with my family at Union Square, and getting out of town just before the rain really started.

I'll have some pic's to post up this weekend. I was hoping to have some up tonight, but well, the best laid plans..., and all that.

Ahhh,... I missed this meeting with you guys! Next time, after the holidays B&G would be great to get together again. I just got back from Yuropa where I froze my buns for one month...
 
As always it was great to see the "regulars" and meet some new folks as well! I am always amazed at what a nice collection of people frequent this site.

I enjoyed the exhibition but, as mentioned above, I enjoyed the early work the most. I was also shocked to see an Araki photo of a beach... not his usual subject if you know what I mean.

The city was kind of quiet and my photography was kind of putrid but it was great hanging out and strolling the city a bit. The burger at Taylor's was a terrific end to the day.

My takeaway image from the day.... Kevin hugging "Pat", the he/she less fortunate gal who confounded Kev's gender radar.

Mike... I couldn't find your shot, but luckily I had one after they cuffed him. I thought they were a little excessive about it, but he seemed to enjoy it, so...
