i finally give up on my LS2000
and was just going to buy the scan dual IV, but the specifications in the minolta website doesn't say it support tiger
does anyone have experience using the scanner with tiger?

I've been using it since 10.4.0 and haven't had any problems with it. I use the bundled software and Silverfast. No problems with either. I'm currently using 10.4.2.

thanks dave,
I'm going to buy it then

SilverFast for Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV works great with Tiger and the scanner. I've had no problems either.

It is in the best interests of the major scanner makers to provide the software for all popular computer systems. If a Operating System is upgraded, then a newer version of the manufacturers software should be available for download, usually free.

There were no upgrades on the Minolta software.

When Tiger came out, I left a 10 gig partition on my HD just for 10.3 because stuff tends to break on the upgrades.

Everything worked perfectly except my Epson 2200. I'm not sure what happened there. They even updated the drivers :bang: -- So I still use 10.3 when its time to print..haha.

at least you have 10.3
I don't, my mac life starts with the Tiger

classic is the one I'll have to use if anything doesn't work with Tiger

Another 10.4 user with a Dual Scan IV, no problems..

Dave,
I'm using the 2100/2200 with 10.4 without a problem, have you tried uninstalling the driver and preference panes etc?

Cheers,
Phil

did you use the drivers from the 10.4 install CD, or the ones from Epson website? I used the ones from Epson to save over 200mb on the install. After it was all said and done, I've read that the latest drivers were bundled w/ the install. I may have to fumble around with it when I get some more time.

Dave

I use the Epson drivers. (The ones shipping with tiger are the GIMP drivers.)

You might want to take a look at this:
http://www.mymac.ws/mac-printing-from-photoshop-12598.html

Keep in mind this will apparently reinstall the driver completely though, while it really shouldn't be much of a problem to have two drivers installed for the same printer.

Infact I'm still doing exactly this in tiger with my 1270.
The Gimp drivers deliver much greater tonality for B/W and better tones and accuracy printing color, at the expense of being much slower.
The Epson drivers are a lot faster, but obviously have problems with, well - just about everything else, I'll post a list if anyone's interested :)

So I'm using the GIMP for high quality and the epson for text etc. Both drivers are activated, I simply choose one of them from the dropdown in the actual printing dialog...

Epson produces exceptionally good printers, but their OsX support and drivers are a mess.
And after having had to deal with their exceptional hotline multiple times over the last years I got the impression that while osX certainly supports Epson printers, Epson doesn't necessarily support osX. :D

Hope I'm being of any help,

Good luck!
Phil

BTW. If you install the 200+ printer drivers, you could just manually delete the ones you don't need from /library/printers/ afterwards to save up some space..

My problem is mostly on borderless 4x6 prints. The printer thinks the page is .5" longer than it actually is. This causes printing problems at the bottom of the image where the last .25" is not printed, or completely smeared. When it comes to the end of the paper, it keeps going and going and.... This is found on 75% of the prints in 10.4.

I did some more testing today, and the problem doesn't exist on 10.3 printing the exact same image. I'll do some more testing tonight when I have more time.

Dave,

Could you post a detailed workflow description?
Maybe you're just missing the obvious, at least this is what happens to me most of the time.. :)

Cheers,
Phil
