September: Month for Selling Equipment

Well, there's nothing in my equipment roster that I have a need or desire to dispose of; the only thing I would want right now is an M body of some sort, although I don't have the bucks for that right now (a client of mine might loan me her M2, but she sounds reluctant about selling it, even though she hasn't touched it in ages). I nice, black ZI would be nice, too, but likely is a bit more out of reach (and, even though others have said it isn't a big deal, I'm still a tad bugged about snapping my M-Hex 90 on a body with 85mm frame lines). I now even have my Obligatory Digital Camera needs covered ("You down with ODC?" "Yeah, you know me!) with an inherited Olympus D-510Z, which I blathered on about in a previous thread.

However, given the nature of my principal means of making a buck these days, I do have a growing stack of dead iBooks/PowerBooks I'd like to part with...;)

i have sold off pretty much all of my 35mm equipment that i won't be using, but i still need to find a good home for some large format gear.

- a 165mm zeiss tessar (uncoated) in a beautiful dial-set compur shutter (working fine).

- also a 130mm goerz dagor lens (original made in berlin uncoated lens). this thing is TINY. a great backpacking lens that even covers 5x7 stopped all the way down. also in a dial-set compur shutter.

- new 545i 4x5 polaroid back w/ fresh new unopened pack of B&W polaroid film (type 54)

- unopened pack of 25 sheets of delta 100

- kodak aero ektar 178mm f2.5 lens

- prontor press shutter (size copal 0). i have 2 of these. working great

First I was buying, now I'm doing the other thing!

Cosina M42 F3.8 20mm lens plus red filter.
Kiev fit J-12 35mm lens

Both in excellent order.

Cheers, Ian

Strangely enough, I'd almost rather have an R2 than an R2M. Keep that in mind, will you? ;)

sure, stephanie. ;) i think i will find my m6 in a few days before i go crazy. i'd love my R2 to go to another RF-headed gal. :)

I wasn't planning on buying anything until my next visit to US on late October (avoiding the heavy import taxes), but am interested in a user Leica M2 or M4-2, and a VC 15mm.

You guys do know that when you dump all these in September, you will be flooding the market and driving the price down, right? I will be there ready to snap them up at below-market prices. ;)

That's a good thing, right?

People will not wait until September to strike deals; trust me.
Plus, keeping items within this thread will keep prices from going down in comparison with direct competition in the classified. It is a relaxed setting for buyers and sellers that allows dicrete negotiations through personal messages to arrive at agreeable prices. Just make sure that your mailbox is not full.

In the interest of facilitating sales to others, I'd like to ask the group about PayPal. I have to say that the website really is rather coy (or at least unclear) about just how it operates, and that makes me very leery of setting up a PayPal account. I do not want to link it in any way to any bank accounts, credit cards, etc. All I'd want it for is to enable somebody to pay me from overseas, or for me to pay someone who's overseas. How does one deposit money into a PayPal account? How does one take money out of a PayPal account? I'd love to hear from those of you who use it.

PayPal only works the way you described. I joined it then left it since having direct access to my bank account is very worrisome. Then I joined it again since I needed an easy way to send and receive money. I think, one day I will cancel the PayPalaccount again. It is a great way to stop buying equipment. When selling, ask for an international postal money order. The post office accepts such payment without any fees.

you do not have to link to a credit card but you do have to link to a bank account.
you can transfer money from the bank account to paypal account and visa versa. it usually takes a few days.
c.c. are instant and you have the benefit of the c.c. protection.
it has, so far, been a pain free experience for me but others have had major problems.

I have used paypal for years and have never had it tied to a bank account. If I did I would not be using it. I have my paypal account tied to my AmEx card. Then again I have only ever PAID using paypal - never RECEIVED any fund. That may make a difference.
