Just got an M7 and I need a strap. What do you recommend?

I'm a big fan of the deluxe cloth Voigtlander strap made by Artistan & Artist. It's lightweight, very comfortable, attractive, affordable, simple and very well-suited to rangefinders. It's not adjustable, however, so you'd better like the length (I do).

I like the Y-Strap (Figital Revolution) or the LeicaGoodies Strap. They're both cross-body straps that hang the camera from one lug at your hip, using a large split ring that slides over the strap as you bring the camera up to eye level. Which one is best depends on your body size and camera lug size/placement. The Y-Strap is adjustable in length, and will fit large persons. The LeicaGoodies strap is shorter and non-adjustable. The Y-Strap is wider, and so it works best with a larger split ring -- but that didn't fit well in my R-D1's strap lug. I preferred the fit and feel of the Y-Strap, but the LeicaGoodies strap mated better with my R-D1.

If you prefer a traditional neck strap, my hands-down favorite is the Tamrac N-45. Extremely durable black nylon strap with a comfortable non-slip suede (black or brown) neck pad.

Forget the strap ... I'd be more interested to hear what you think of the M7 compared to the Ikon!

I went the other way ... got rid of my M7 and bought the ZI ... maybe you still have an Ikon?

I love the a-la-carte straps from Leica (the skinny ones that don't have a shoulder pad)... David usually has them in stock so stop by his place and check them out.

Is it an issue of your M7 not having one when you bought it? How about the basic, standard, boring Leica strap? Let me know if you need that one.

IMHO, a strap just gets in the way when shooting an RF. I just use a leicagoodies SLING with my ZI.

I only use a strap with a DSLR, and for that I use the PacSafe strap and carry the DSLR body + lens bandolier-style.

I like the A&A Kobe straps on my MP and M3. Thought about a wrist strap, but quckly dismissed that idea--well the Leicatime one I have anyway.

For function: make your own Y-strap with some 1" webbing, a couple of triglides, and a large split ring.

For looks: A&A shell cordovan strap to match that black paint!

I recently bought one of the Voigtlander deluxe straps for a second hand body that didnt have one. The deluxe was all I could find, but when it arrived I was delighted. Nice, very soft and works really well. I didn't think a strap could be an upgrade...
