You are right about the number of cameras I have. I must thin that down. I keep saying it but haven't yet. At least I have quit buying (for now). Actually, I didn't want all those I bought necessarily. Some I got due to the low price and amount of cut film holders, others for a specialty item, like auxillery lenses or rangefinders. Luckily I got most of them before the prices started to get crazy on ebay.

I even got one with interchangable lenses. I remember you telling me about that some time ago. I had never seen or heard of one then, now I have one with a Zeranar lens. It fits into two flanges, the bottom of which is sprint loaded for removal of the lens holder, and the top has a funky locking lever. Who knew? I don't know where you get all your information, but it is always right.

Photos and better description will have to wait. I have put it in a location I don't just now have access to. As soon as I can get back there, I will do so. Since I didn't (and don't) anticipate getting any other lenses any time soon, it didin't seem a bad thing to do. Especially as I have several other 9x12s to play with and work on. Believe it or not, I now have 4 RF 9x12 cameras. I didn't even know they made them until I got the first VAG you and I spoke about before. Since, I have three Recomars. All working but needing minor repairs/adjustments. With my schedule, that will keep me occupied photographically for a while. lol.

The lens was a 135, and as I mentioned, a Zeranar. The lens fits in a round "lensboard" that fits on the camera, inside two curved flanges. The lower flange is spring loaded, and the top one has a place where a lever arm can fit into it from the camera lens standard. That is to lock it and keep it from moving downwards and coming out of the flanges.

I am hoping to get another lens for it, or at least a lens I hope will work with it. Interesting about the other lenses. I will be keeping an eye out. Thanks for your reply.

Ah shucks (blush, blush).

I wasn't (couldn't) use them. I don't have a Welta 9x12. Somebody should get some use from them. I just hope they fit since as Chippy has mentioned, there were different sizes, apprently even sometimes within the same brand.
 
I don't think I have ever seen a metal 9x12 unless it is those super thin models I see on ebay once in a while. I think I would prefer the wood for its less weight (if in fact it weighs less) as well as I just think they look neat.

This is an Ihagee 9x12 cm that I took pictures with a few decades ago. I have the cut film holder, the film pack holder and the ground glass holder. I only ever used the film pack holder. I think there was a roll-film adapter as well, but I never had one.

The double extension bellows is still leak tight, and, as I recall, the Zeiss Tessar produced very good images of moderate contrast. I probably shot with (??) Super XX and Panatomic X at the time.

The background in the attached picture is the table where I toss my proofs.

Currently, I use a more recent vintage German instrument, but one that has changed very little over the past few decades.😀 Wish I could say the same for me.🙁

Wow this grave taken with Radionar looks just fantastic.
I just bought Voigtlander Avus 6x9 with Skopar 4,5/10,5 cm with three cassetes, one roll film cassete and leather case. I just shot my first roll of 120 on it - here are two results:

That Bergheil is an impressive bit of kit!

Here's my Voigtländer Avus 9 x 12; dial-set Compur, and Voigtländer Anastigmat "Skopar" 13.5cm f4.5.

I haven't used it yet. The right-hand tab on the double-extension bellows is torn and needs some repair. Also the wire viewfinder front frame is missing, but I have downloaded lots of pictures from eBay listings to give me a guide for making one.

The "wire viewfinder / sportsfinder" is something you don´t need at all! - focusing on the groundglas is the best/only way to use these cams ;-)

Do you mean the bellow holder with right hand tab? - forget it!
If you want to extend its fast forgotten and the bellows over stretched and on "normal" focus the bellows wouldn't hang down to vignette.
 
I'm sure you are right, but I can't stand to use a camera that is incomplete, or partly working: it would nag at me until I fixed it! I think, in fact, that the bellows may not be light-tight where the tab has been torn.

As I'm sure you know, a penlight can be used in a dark room to see if a bellows is light tight. Due to threads like this one, 9x12 are getting some more expensive on ebay than they used to be, but you still might be able to get a parts camera with a good bellows. I would just ensure the seller states the bellows are light tight.

Failing that, and depending on the amount of damage, you might be able to repair a leak with a thin but light tight tape. Something like a thin gaffer's tape. I had that done to a 120 folder years ago and it lasted for several years.

As to the wire frame, I have one that I need to repair but haven't yet. I guess I need to talk to a machinist friend of mine. He will be better able to guess what type of wire to use and how to fit in into the holders so it moves easily enough without flopping around. BTW, a machinist can make film sheaths for any cut film holders you may have that don't have them. Best to provide him a sample so he can get the correct thickness of metal. I have no idea what that would cost.
 
I used a tape which was used for the handlebar of racing bicyles to repair a friends bellows - worked wonderfull!
Small holes you can repair with liquid isolation from the electrians shop - some Leica people did this even with their focal plane shutter cloth!!!

The wire finder is something absolutly useless and allways in the way when you change time and aperture -so forget about it and be lucky that it isn´t there! That´s the point why a lot of cams missing this part - nice for the shelf but not for using!
If you couldn´t find cut / sheet film inserts use a piece of glas!
Cut it to the size (9x12cm) and maybe stick the film on it - but normaly you just can place the film on the glas and insert the whole into the glasplate holder - that´s what I did before I got some inserts. Finding inserts allone on evilbay is nearly impossible - you may have to buy some plateholders to get them - even when the holders didn´t fit to your cam, you get the inserts and can sell the holders again!
 
Picked up not 1 but 2 9x12 plate cameras last month.

One I haven't figured out what brand it is (I'm thinking it might be a Laack body). Still needs a little more work before I can use it..

I'm really waiting for better weather to take a better picture of it and the extras.

Haven't really looked at how to load the film in the plate holders, but I'll probably go with some kind of backing material. Cardboard or plastic.
 
I use 9x12cm film (I have 100 sheets of fresh 9x12 Efke PL100!) in my three Plaubel Makiflexes. Shown in my Avatar.

Recently I have discovered www.ag-photographic.co.uk and they are located just up the road from the Ilford plant, and get daily shipments from them. They stock 9x12cm Ilford HP5 for 37.90EU which appears to me to be a pretty good price. I am in the process of placing an order with them. Waiting to see if Ilford will custom-cut 250 sheets of 2.25x3.25" Ilford HP-5. Apparently they have some pull at the Ilford factory.

Those are interesting cameras. Good luck with the cut film holders. I guess none of them have a sheath? I know a lot of people do use glass as a backing to get the film in the film plane, or close to it. Looking forward to seeing photos you get from them. They are much lighter than 4x5 and yet the negative is about that size.

Thanks for that link. I will have to double check the Freestyle prices for 4x5 first, then I might contact them as I think Freestyle doesn't seel 9x12 in Ilfford film. It would save me having to cut donw 4x5 which is what I do now.

What is a Plaubel Makiflex? I decided to google it before I posted this. Looks like an interesting camera. Do you use them much?

Yes I have three Makiflexes (see my Avatar) and I use them at every opportunity, but not as often as I would like 😀 The Plaubel Makiflex was an early 1960's SLR 9x9cm, with rotating back. Focal plane shutter, I use mine with lenses from 120mm to 360mm. I have been avidly collecting and using these cameras for over twenty years. I just think they are too way cool 😎 From what I call the "Golden Age of Photography".

I have not had good luck cutting down sheet film in the dark. I have completely given up on that idea. The 9x12cm film is pricey, but cheaper than other sources I have found in Europe. Still waiting for an answer on the 2.25x3.25" special order from Ilford. They tell me normally the minimum for special size cutting is twenty boxes of 25 sheets, I am only asking for ten. But they say they have some pull at the factory. We will see.

My Collection of 9x12cm Holders and 9x12cm Makiflex Back

At the top, is my 9x12cm Plaubel Makiflex Back. It produces a 9x9cm image in the center of the 9x12 sheet.

Across the bottom, are my collection of 9x12cm single shot film holders. Four are from the Ukraine, then Voigtlander holders, then two that are unmarked (of German manufacture). By the way, all of these holders are presently loaded with fresh 9x12cm Efke PL100 film, ready to go. 😀

The holder on the far right (with the vertical striped ridges) Does anybody here know who manufactured this holder? I would like to find many more of these, if possible.

Finally, Can anybody here help me identify this 9x12cm holder? I just took a chance, and purchased it from Olden Camera on Ebay:
Is it for filmpack or film sheet?
