A repair technician explained to me the modifications that would have been made to make it a Ic from a Ia, and issues that have to be resolved if I wanted to put the original Ia Elmar back on.
Heck, its cheaper just to buy a Elmar lens!

My "teaching IIIg"
This was an incomplete IIIg that I got back into working condition, but left the top off, so that I could see its inner workings.

I got this Elmar 9cm at a local flea market. I like the way the vulcanite on the lens matches the camera covering. Shooting a half roll through it now.

Just goes to show : You got flea markets and you got flea markets. Never see nice stuff like that around here! Nice setup . .. ... !

What is the reason for the circular cap on the backside of the camera body ?

It's the location of the film-speed reminder disk.
Btw, Vickko, great and very interesting pictures!

Black and Chrome
Black and Chrome
Not a conversion but a later black and chrome II from 1936 with contemporary Elmar in feet.

If you are looking for black and chrome cameras look at the lens flange...if it is nickel then chances are the camera started life as black and nickel.

What a beauty, Michael. Congratulations.
It seems that the black and chrome II's were made for the export. They are more common in the US and maybe also in the UK. However, they usually have the "Germany" inscription (as on your lens).

Erik,
Many thanks.
I wonder how high the serial numbers go on black (and woods metal) cameras? somewhere around 300,000 in 1938???

Indeed a beautyful II Michael. Is that a dimple in the center of the rewind knob, filled with red paint?

Huub, no, not red paint, curious though... it is the top end of the shaft that looks as if it has been machined or worn down down a tiny bit so that the brass is showing

I wonder too, but I've never seen anything with Woods metal from the war or later, so I guess you are about right.I wonder how high the serial numbers go on black (and woods metal) cameras? somewhere around 300,000 in 1938???

A "mismatched" kit perhaps, ...
That's the beauty of LTM... compatibility!
Nice set!

A "mismatched" kit perhaps, but they go well together :

Thank you all.
The Sonnar looks good but should be collimated properly. It is a bit mysterious as is was probably produced in Contax mount and converted in LTM. (see here : http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2034447&postcount=756 )
I like the old Sonnars, they have an interesting history.

Planning to sell my Jupiter-9 with Carl Zeiss optics, and the non-original 1947 2.0/50mm ZK Sonnar...
Need to cover some expenses and those lenses get the least use in my pack, they don't make me any money...
