So, just now I put some new batteries in my camera, cocked the film advance, and pressed the shutter, but in stead of hearing the familiar sound of the shutter being fired off, all I hear is this weird little twitchy sound which instantly didn't sound any good at all... and the camera is as of this moment completely jammed.

The shutter wont fire and the film advance is stuck, as if awaiting for the shutter to be released or something, though the meter is working perfectly. Does this sound familiar to any of you? Any idea what's causing it and if so how to get it fixed?

Here are some options and things to look out for:

After loading film:
• make sure lens caps are off (ideally, find a suitable trash receptacle for said lens cap)
• use a set speed instead of "A"

In case of "jam"
• try turning on and off
• rewind film and then advance the little toothy wheel (right side) and try winding again

These always fixed my infrequent "jams". Most often it seems that people load film while on aperture priority and then want to shoot the blank frames while blocking all light from reaching the lightmeter. The 8 seconds of maximal auto-exposure are enough to confuse most people.

Thanks for the tips!

I´ve tried both with and without film in, set a different speed than A, switching on and off, but I´ll give a go at the last one.

Before this happened I did a couple of long exposure night shots on bulb. Think this somehow could´ve messed something up?

The "twitchy sound" is a little disconcerting.

You could always remove the batteries, put them back in or possibly newer ones, then see if you can fire the shutter with the back open. Try it at 125 or something.
