Shutter problem on Iskra2 120 folder

I just bought an Iskra2 120 folder. I don't have a manual so I am trying to sort things out on my own. I can manage everything except the shutter! It appears that it is locked in the uncocked position. Can anyone give me advice on this? The cocking mechanism appears to be near the lens and non-functional. I am missing something?

Do you have film in the camera? If you cock the shutter without film in the camera, you can't release the shutter with the release button by the frame counter. You have to trip the lever on the bottom left side of the lens (if your looking at it straight on).

Thanks for the tips. You guessed correctly. I don't have film in the camera. I see a lever where you describe it, but moving it does not seem to unlock the shutter mechanism.
Should I load film in the camera? Will that fix this problem?

No, it will not fix it. First, you have to try to cock the shutter (you know where is the lever, I suppose). If the shutter can not be cocked or not stay cocked, or autorelease, it can be a trivial repair or perhaps no. Please, post if the shutter can be cocked or no.

Hi,

Russian version of the manual is available here:

The online translation sites do a terrible job of translating the text but it does give you a pretty good guide. Better than nothing.

some short tips on using Iskra:

-self-timer is a green small lever on the right side of the lens.
to activate it, cock the shutter and pull the green lever to the uppermost position.

-to change aperture values, slightly pull lens ring (for 1mm or so)

-some aperture/speed combinations are not available for selected exposure index.
to change it, rotate two lens rings together (aperture index and shutter speed ring are coupled ).

-good habit is to advance film immediately after the shutter release. Forgetting to do it may cause double exposures, or missed shots
