Shutter Tripping?

I only have one camera. I won't pick up an SLR.

So I was shooting tonight, I would press the shutter release and go to cock the shutter and it felt loose, then I pressed the shutter release again and nothing. I checked to see if the shutter was cocked, nothing. I turned off the camera I could hear the shutter release or close, it was loud in the room, but I could hear something click. I had another battery with me so I switched, in the case that it was a battery issue. I shot three or four frames and it happened again. sigh....

What do you think?

One of my RD-1s has this fault. It occurs on mine if I use the shutter cocking-lever in a gentle manner, as I am prone to do. When it occurs, I can usually make the camera work by jerking the lever fully to the right, and the required electrical contact will be made. I have found, though, that if I use the lever more aggressively, letting it fly back from its cocking position, the fault does not present.

I keep thinking I should put the camera through Epson's so-called repair service (Flat fee of £270 plus), but am fearful of receiving an exchanged body with other, so-far avoided flaws. The good news is that my machine has displayed this fault for more than a year, but it hasn't grown worse. I am fairly certain that it's an electrical contact issue. It could be an easy fix, given that there isn't some absurdly-designed proprietry component involved.

Good luck with your RD-1. I dread any failure of my units. This little camera is the closest I've come to reproducing the experiences I had with my OM system, back in the 70s and 80s. I will be so sad to lose the feeling again.

By the way, I was just looking at your Flikr pages. Have you noticed that your friends are all far too-pretty!?

thanks for the response. Its going back to Robert White, true there reputation on rangefinderforum.com they were helpful, and optimistic about the repair cost.
