Noise! Noise? Noisn, Noiin, noain, nrain, grain. Grain! Folks sure like to harp about noise. I LOVE the noise that my GRD produces. Granted, It's good to be able to have crisp, clear, highly detailed photos for big prints or cropping. But noise can be beautiful. So I'm hopping for a bit better user interface on the DP2 then we can get those really sweet low ISO details, and higher ISO grain. Opps, I mean, noise.......

Here's a sample of the size difference between the DP1 and DP2. The DP2 is the thicker one.
Who has one preordered? They should be shipping out any day now.

Do you mean you bought one, or just saw it?
If you bought one, post pics!

I bought it; it's my first digital, so let me practice for a while.
Now I'm looking for a comprehensible user's manual: they gave me only a Japanese one.

First digital? That's way cool. My new DP1 is my 5th digital camera and in second favorite place behind the Epson.
I suggest that if you shoot at ISO 50 you underexpose a little bit and if you shoot at ISO 800 and higher you overexpose a little bit.
I assume you have the fastest extreme III or IV sd card available and that you have turned the Quick Preview (Vista Veloce) off in order to increase the shot to shot shooting speed.
If there is no dedicated ISO button, you should be able to programatically assign a button to allow you to quickly change that.
Please let us know how the auto focus works in poor light and if manual focus in poor light is relatively easy or not!

Kevin,
many thanks for very useful tips; I'll post my first pics during weekend.
Any suggestion about image posting (format) on this site in order to give the best evaluation.

I believe most posters here link to large images hosted elsewhere but I could be mistaken.
Most would be keenly interested to know what this new model can record at 800 and 1600 (as well as how well it focuses) in low light.
Enjoy!

BTW, I just realized that you REALLY like 35/2s (Contax G, Hexar AF, Hexanon, Summicron IV, Canon, OM). I can't blame you though, they're great.
It seems like the DP2 is the closest thing we have so far to a digital Hexar AF. Somewhat slower and narrower, but small, silent, and sharp. How would you compare it to your AF film cameras (G2, Hexar AF)?

Preamble; I approach digital just for color fulfill, as times change and I can't get satisfaction from color-film-lab in these days, nevertheless I almost exclusively dedicate to B&W film shooting, developing and printing on my own.
In the gear comparation DP2 comes nearer to Hexar AF; I use DP2 with its hood adapter and filter accessories permanently put in, this cage incredibly helps the camera handling and grab because otherwise is rather smaller and a bit "slippery" to manoeuvre.
Focusing is generally good, anyway slower than Hexar and in low light shows some perplexity; manual option is handy and very practical.
Considering I haven't yet get the user's manual (had Japanese only) controls and indications are very intuitive and friendly.
I''ll try to post first pics soon for your evaluations.

Spoke to Sigma in the Netherlands. They expect the DP2 within 2-3 weeks. Foto Konijnenberg just published the price on their website EUR 509. Not bad, in line with US prices for a change.

Should arrive in France today or tomorrow according to Sigma dealer. Price will be 649€, inline with what some web merchants show. I have doubts about the news coming from the Netherlands
especially on price ...
