Singapore Chapter of RFF

Hey, I was recently on attachment at IMH. I like the work there =) A photot subject on mental health would be great 'cause I feel that Singaporeans really don't know what mental health is all about..

Totally agree with that! My wife has been complaining that I am spending more time with the R2 than her. She really hates it when I am batch scanning the negatives or editing the scanned shots! She is especially annoyed when I said no more lenses during Christmas when I bought the Minolta SD IV but last week I bought a Color Heliar 75mm/2.5! The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak! So weak when I am faced with a piece of good glass! At least I can console her that at least I am not into more carnal pleasures! 😛

Exactly the same here. Maybe worse as I can be sued for neglecting my children too! Nowadays I try to print out nice pics of the family to keep her calm when I am doing my scanning and PS.

Maybe cravings for things photography is our sub-concious mind's way of suppressing our desires for carnal pleasures 😀. Oh no, I am thinking of getting another MP again!

If you don't mind an R. I recall seeing one in Alex photo 2 floor of peninsula plaza (where the burger king is). He is asking for S$1000 for it though.

Alternatively you can try cameraquest.com or photovillage.com
lastly eeksbay

$1000 for a Bessa R is a very ridiculous price! One could get a Bessa R and Color Skopar 35mm/2.5C for USD 450 from Joseph Yao.

Agreed - I am often amazed at how inflated local used camera prices are; I wonder how they get any of their stock sold at all.

Joseph doesn't seem to answer his emails? Anyone have any idea of the exact address of the shops in Mongkok that have reasonable prices? My friend's going Hongkong in a couple of day's time..

I've found that Joseph answers his emails relatively promptly; within one or two days at most. I think as long as you got the correct email address, you'll be getting your replies soon.

Are prices of Leica M6/7/mp inflated in Singapore as well?

Trying to find a reason to buy one while I'm away!

Woah Nick, there's never a good enough reason to fork out the dosh for any of those. But if so, I suggest you look for them in the US. Both used and new prices are a bit better than Singapore or Hong Kong. The 35 lux is $4100, M7 is going for $4300 and MP $4400 here in Singapore. Ya, I've been looking around too, LOOKING only!

Hi Terence, do keep us posted on your review and impression of your new CF 700. I am interested in how well the bag age.

I'm quite happy with the CF700. Firstly, it's a savings of S$100 from the Domke original and it comes with a fully padded interior with 3 compartments. The Domke, for $180, only comes with a single padded compartment. The extra 3 compartment insert is $50!

I find the Safrotto better put together too. The stitching is neater and appears just as strong. The only gripe is the strap is a bit hard and too wide, and the fabric used does not seem as soft as the original.

Take note it's fabric and not waterproofed. The main compartment does not have a zip either and is covered by the main flap.

For a small bag, it holds a surprisingly large load. I've had my Fuji S2, Nikkor 17-35D, Bessa R2 with 1 lens mounted and another, 25 rolls of film, trashbag for waterproofing, notebook, mobile phone, pepper spray, kleenex, and sunnies squished into a compartment hardly 30 inches long.

The best feature... it does not look like a camera bag, more like a nondescript messenger satchel. I can't wait for it to get that weathered look!

Go get one... mine's in black so if you plan to hang out with me, get another color, I recommend the gaudy blue, you'd definitely stand out with that one. It's so ugly no one would want to steal it.

I have an FM2 and am dying to get hold of a bessa R2 or R2a.
with regards to photo projects, am considering one for mental health.
so where on earth do i get one in sing?? 🙂

Hiya,

Welcome to RFF! So far I count 3 persons in the medical profession on this thread.

As with a few other recommendations, I'd say go with Joseph Yao for the Bessa. For the R2, he has only the black body in stock. Dr. Yao is based in Hong Kong and his prices are good, nice friendly fellow to deal with.

I'm thinking of placing a further order so if you want to piggy back on mine, drop me an email.

If that's true, I must be a pervert. 😎

Think everyone has a different technique with keeping spouses/partners at bay. I just bought my wife an iPod Shuffle 2 weeks ago, that'd distract her for about 2 months, enough time to arrange the purchase of a scanner and new printer.

Ladies, any further insight into weaknesses we can exploit?

One thing good about buying locally is the warranty. My MP has a 5 year passport warranty and new lenses have a 3 year warranty. I think that alone justifies the price premium. I would think buying grey from HK would be less attractive than buying used, since in both cases, there is no local warranty and used is still cheaper. If you are overseas, that's another story.

Hi! Did Dr. Yao responded to your e-mail? He replied my e-mail several times yesterday.

That is the problem. In order to distract them I have to spend more money. Any suggestions on how to appease them in the most economic fashion. 😛

But if you are buying grey products from a reputable dealer who actually checks all outgoing orders and who is himself a RF users, I think you could save alot of money and yet get high quality equipment. My camera and lenses have yet to fail me despite heavy usage. The monet saved goes to more films and other accessories.

Congrats about the VC meter.
I notices your post on clubsnap and it did not get many answers hor?

Wat lens you use on the Zorki? I think the Jupiter 8 is quite good (if you did not get a lemon).

Yep. Thanks! Not sure what happened to my previous mail.. Soon my VC meter would be on it's way! =)

I presume that you bought the Ultra slim and sexy VC II meter? Now you can shoot meterless camera with correct exposure! 😛
