I just got a lovely little letter from a collection company in the mail today. I had been paying my credit card bill slowly (and very, very small amounts) while I was off work and sometimes I couldn't make it, so I was kind of expecting it...I just wish it wouldn't have happened now. I have a line on two different jobs and such now so I should be able to pay the darn thing, but I'd like to get it resolved.

So yeah, I'm selling prints. If you see anything here that catches your eye, feel free to email/pm me about it. When I get my first paycheck from whichever of these jobs I take, I'll be not only giving to the Katrina/Rita relief effort, but I'll have more photos to share. Heh.

And by the way...I know some of them suck. Most were taken with my Nikon before I sold it. 🙂

Oh, and by the way...I'm working on a gallery at the moment, but it won't be done for a bit. Sorry about how the photos are presented.

That sucks, Steph! But you're not the only one. I got a similar letter yesterday.

Good luck on those jobs opp's!

BTW, I like your shot Drip. Very cool!

Thanks! I figure that this is the best way to go to get the little money that I really need (apart from selling most of the things I really treasure (such as my cameras and my MGS2 action figures ^_^)) and, considering that I do want to get my work out there, it's time I started doing something.

Also, I redid the front page of my website, located here, so that people can link to it and get an explanation of what I'm offering. If you guys have sites that are frequented and would be nice enough to link me, once I finish the actual layout (that's taking longer than planned -_-) I'll link you on the main page. *Anyone* who can buy something now would help me out a lot. 🙂

I was going to respond to this earlier this morning but I forgot..

WRT collection agencies.. you can work out any number of options with them since they get paid as long as you're paying back any outstanding debt that they've purchased (yes, they purchase the debt) from the bank/credit card companies/etc. etc. etc.

Work with them as much as possible (i.e. really try to stretch out the payment which will allow you time to get those jobs under your belt to pay them back faster).

Gook Luck!

Gook Luck!

Did you ever see the www.savekaryn.com site where she was begging people to buy her Prada pocket books and such? People actually sent her money via paypal to get her get out of debt.

If you don't do well selling prints, you could try her route.

I also second what Dave said. Most of us are too embarrased to call the banks when we are having problems, but they will work for you if you get to the right person. Some of those collection agencies can be nasty. Good Luck!

Nice website BTW.

Steph, keep calm and be cool, the new job and stuff will help sort out the little problem. Might take a while to get everything under control but all will be fine in the end.

If it gets tough and you need to part with some of you kit to help out then thats OK, you can always get it back later on, the bods here will find good (temporary) homes for it. Keep what you really need though as your photo's show great potential.

Take care

Update: I'm going to get prices tomorrow. Prices will be different for matted/unmatted photos, of course, and I also plan to sign every photo I send out. In addition, you *can* have the option of a frame...I've seen some at Target that I actually planned on buying for displaying some prints on MY walls that would go really nice with the black and white and some silver/black ones that are the same type for color.

I've been having trouble sleeping recently so I'm trying to get back to a set schedule. I really don't want to just take handouts. Once I get my first paycheque from my new job everything will most likely be hunkie dorie...I just have to get that far first.

My Paypal address is stephaniebrim@hotmail.com. If you do send money, send a note and I *will* send you a print of your choice as a thank you no matter what. I can choose or you can choose. The money gotten through these means will be used to pay my debt.

I really don't have that much. It's 700 bucks. But if I get at least that and some more out of selling prints, maybe I can get myself a scanner too. 😛

$700 or $70.000, it doesn't really matter. If you don't have the money, it's always too much.

Stay confident, Steph! It may all seem dark and gloomy now but the sun shines behind the clouds. Get a scheduled life, eat properly, go to bed on time (and get up early). Don't give in to the darkness. You definitely don't want to get depressed.

One thing I learned is that it's easier to go with the flow of your life than to swim against it. Be like a reed: bend but don't break.

Good luck, and keep your chin up!

The fact that I've been suffering with some serious insomnia also doesn't help things. I've been awake for nearly 36 hours with only about two hours, maybe three, of sleep in the entire amount of time. I think that this is mostly due to the fact that I have not been eating like I should. I used to be big into organics and healthfoods, but lack of money has kind of pushed me into a diet that I *know* isn't good for me. Now that I can getorganic produce/groceries sent to my door I feel that I don't have the excuse once I get a job anymore. I'll once again focus on eating healthfoods and maybe I'll have more energy.

But thanks for the support, guys. It means a lot to me.

just for the reccord I wasn't trying to be a jerk, debt sucks as does uncertainty. It has always helped me to think long term so that one day, when my kids are complaining about their lives, I can tell them all about how crappy it was back in the day.

Something that always helps me deal with stress is physical exercise...i let it all go in the gym and end up feeling really balanced and centred afterwards, expecially on the days that I had to drag my but to the gym.

Keep your head up.

Hi Stephanie, sorry to hear about the finances. I hope your print sales go well.

You may know this already, but if you sell any prints matted, make sure the mattes are "acid-free". Otherwise, prints can eventually turn an ugly yellow and clients may call back upset a few months from now.

Look at the inside edge of the matte opening. If it looks like cardboard in color, it's probably not acid free. Also, the matte should be labeled "acid free". The cheap $2.00 mattes sold at Aaron Brothers are generally not acid free. Nielsen and Bainbridge makes beautiful white, acid free pre-cut mattes that are fairly inexpensive for preserving your fine art. You can always add the matte price to the sale plus a few cents/dollars.

Again, good luck.

Chris

Yep, that I know. I use acid-free ink when marking prints for albums and such and I did some scrapbooking, so I know all about acid-free.

I hope it goes well, too. If it does, not only will I get the money to pay off my debt, but I'll get the money to buy some of the new gear I've been wanting as well.
