soft release on rd1?

the rd1 is the only camera in recent memory that i do not use a soft release on.
it feels 'off' for some reason. i have rad that the release on the rd1 can be a bit funky but made much smoother with some work. i like the release on it's own but not so much with the soft release.
i normally use a mini soft and have thinking of trying the bigger one.

No, I haven't felt the need...the shutter release on the R-D1 is very, very smooth.

No idea about R-D1, but my M2 is fine without attachments, as was the M3 I had from 1985 to 2002 -- when soft releases may or may not have existed.

The release on the RD1 can be a bit funky. I tried using a soft release, but it ended up disrupting the shutter by loosening the band around the shutter button, which resulted in the shutter locking up at the most inopportune times. This occurred about four and half years ago. I have not used any soft releases since, nor felt the need for them.

Joe, just tried a soft release, the mini one, on my RD1. Have to say I'm not particularly keen on it. Doesn't improve anything for me. Mine usually sits on an Oly Trip 35 which I find it suits much better. Difficult to pinpoint why other than the Trip shutter button is a tad tiny.

Interesting timing for this question. I've got soft releases on all my cameras -- I like the higher finger point and finger "grip" they give. But I just returned from a family wedding where I shot with the RD1 and a softy and I kept having the impression that I was pushing the softy so it was skew and the shutter release proper pressed against its channel. I had not experienced that in a year or so of RD1 softy shooting so I'll have to take a closer look at why this happened. So far, I have noticed that if used as Tom A prescribes, finger tangent to the dome of the softy and centered, it seems fine; I was pointing with the tip of my index finger and off-center when I experienced the problem, I think.

I have always used a green mini soft release on my R-D1. Feels and works fine. Never had any issues with it.

I have a mini-soft that I bought for the R-D1 but I also felt like it didn't give me much on that camera. It lives elsewhere now.
