Some new photos from Fort Wayne

freedom-motors.jpg

Freedom Motors is a used car lot on Bluffton Road, across the street from Pizza King, in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne, Indiana. This little weatherbeaten American flag hangs on a utility pole along the road in front of the business, which I photographed in the evening, close to sunset, a couple of weeks ago.

hang-this-flag.jpg

Here is one from the archives. I found these newspapers stacked up in my grandma's basement last summer. The American flag signs, which say "Hang this flag in your window as a sign of solidarity," were several years old, printed soon after the September 11 terrorist attacks, if I remember right.

thiele-road-sunrise-4.jpg

I shot this one a year ago, in May, 2012, but just finished editing it. This is the sunrise over a field in rural Allen County, Indiana. It is a couple miles south of my home in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne (the southwest edge of the city).

This old Pepsi trailer was one of many old abandoned semi-truck trailers and piles of wooden pallets surrounding a derelict farmhouse in rural Adams County, Indiana. Located on County Road 1050N, just west of County Road 450W. I photographed it on Christmas Eve last year.

airport-expressway.jpg

This old house in southwest Allen County at the corner of Airport Expressway and Coverdale Road, near Fort Wayne International Airport, has been abandoned for many years. I made this photograph around 2002. In 2008, I went back to the house and photographed the inside. In 2011, it was demolished to make way for a factory and warehouse.

Once again Chris, I love your work. This is a thread I retun to often. Thanks and keep 'em coming. Cheers, Alan

Thanks Alan, I've got lots more to add. I'm still going through my huge film archive and scanning the best images from them, and I'm still shooting new stuff too. Went out this afternoon and shot a roll of Pan-F in my Mamiya 6.

home-of-the-brave.jpg

A spray painted American flag and "The home of the brave," a phrase from the Star Spangled Banner (the American national anthem), on the side of an old building. This stands behind a house on County Road 1000N, east of County Road 500E, in Wells County, Indiana.

I shot it yesterday afternoon.

I grew up in FWA and have friends in Waynedale. When you say Pizza King on Bluffton Road, I can close my eyes and see it. Nice shots.

Thanks, Its great to see someone else from Fort Wayne here. There are a few guys on RFF in other parts of Indiana, but none of them are from Fort Wayne.

An old chair sits on the front porch of an abandoned farmhouse on County Road 1000N, east of County Road 650E, in Wells County, Indiana. I photographed it Sunday afternoon.

prayer.jpg

My grandfather, Charles Crawford, had this sign taped to a cabinet in his dining room in his last years. I photographed it in 2004 and he died in 2008.

"A Prayer: So far today, I've done alright. I haven't gossiped, I haven't lost my temper, I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or overindulgent. But in a few minutes God, I'm going to get out of bed; and from then on I'm probably going to need a lot of help!"

Here's a crop of the sign:

abandoned-house-flag.jpg

This house on Tillman Road, between US-27 and South Anthony Boulevard in Fort wayne, Indiana, appears to be abandoned. The flag is hanging upside down; it is supposed to hang with the stars at the top left when displayed vertically.

I've seen several other houses in Fort Wayne with large flags hanging across the front of the porch, so that visitors would have to walk around it to knock on the door, though those other homes were still inhabited.

I photographed this place last Friday evening.

So Chris, are these last few photos shot with the PanF ? It's recently become
my go to 120 film. Hope you like it as I do.
Peter
