Some new photos from Fort Wayne

Another little pizza place in Hicksville, Ohio. Palace Pizza is just down the street from Red Angel Pizza, which I photographed a few minutes earlier.

seitz-park-bench-1.jpg

This giant-sized park bench, painted like the American flag, is located in Seitz Park in South Bend, Indiana. The park is on an island in the Saint Joseph River in the city's downtown area.

South Bend, located on the northern edge of the state on the border with Michigan, is Indiana's fourth largest city.

Interestingly, there are two rivers in northern Indiana called the Saint Joseph River. Both originate in Hillsdale County, Michigan; their sources are only about 5 miles apart!

One of the rivers flows southwest to Fort Wayne, where it joins the Saint Mary's River to form the Maumee. South Bend's river flows west through southern Michigan, with a bend in the river taking it south into Indiana before going back into Michigan and flowing on to Lake Michigan.

The city of South Bend is named for the "South Bend" in the Saint Joseph River.

merriam-school-1.jpg

This is the abandoned Noble Township District #4 Schoolhouse on Oak Street on the western edge of the small town of Merriam, Indiana. Built in 1914, it is unusual in that it has two classrooms. Most small town and rural schoolhouses from that time period were one-room schools.

Merriam is a small collection of houses, a couple of churches, a cemetery, a dollar General store, and a gas station at the intersection of US-33 and State Road 9 on the southern edge of Noble County, Indiana.

Chris - I'm sure others have suggested it but you have some wonderful images that would make an excellent book about this neck of the woods. The hard part would be to select from such a great collection.
Thanks for sharing

This 1956 Ford F-250 pickup truck is rusting away in the tall grass on the edge of a farmer's field on US-224, a couple miles west of Decatur in rural Adams County, Indiana.

It is one of two old trucks there. The other is a late 1940s fire truck.

Tuesday evening, I photographed this beautiful sky over a field at the very end of the day in rural Allen County, Indiana. This field is on the north side of US-33, just west of O'Day Road, in northwest Allen County.

churubusco-flag-antenna.jpg

This small white house is located on the east side of Main Street (US-33), between Mill Street and Pleasant Street, in the small town of Churubusco, Indiana.

The front door of the house, which is home to an old woman, is adorned with an American flag made of garland.

I photographed it last week.
