The EVF is in the middle simply to make the camera look like a DSLR. It's skeumorphic nonsense, and in this case, actually detracts from the function of the camera.

"Taking" legacy glass is one thing. Doing justice to the optical qualities of legacy glass is quite another.
Even Leica can't build a FF camera with a sensor that doesn't produce massive colour shifts with rangefinder glass, without a software fix based on lens coding.

"Even Leica"?
Leica is at least 20 years behind the Japanese camera companies in the terms of digital technologies (I own M9-P and Nex, use to have X cameras so I do believe that I can compare). Leica only has the name in the lens from the history and rangefinder, nothing else. It is the very same 28 finder for more than 50 years. There are 100s of interesting SLR lens that would work perfectly with the new Sony and that are on par with Leica glass (and for the fraction of the price).

Camera announcements are like politicians. We read into the new camera our own hopes and dreams and then they break our hearts.
Sony usually does a good job, but the reviews will be more informative than the announcement. I don't expect much more than an extension of the APS-C cameras into FF. Basically, better ISO performance (A7), higher resolution (A7r) and a better, less laggy EVF.
Playing nicely with my Biogons would be great, but we shall see.

The tone on this board has gone markedly downhill in the last 6 months. This is a good example.
Enjoy the camera, and its inappropriately placed EVF.

Sorry, but this is just false.
First off, hyperbole doesn't help your argument. What was the state of the art sensor in 1993? Do you really think the Leica M 240 is on par with that?!?
Second, show me an SLR 35mm that outperforms the 35 ASPH FLE. Forget about price; just show me one. Or a 50 that outperforms the APO-Summicron ASPH.

The hump is no big deal, but not necessary. I think marketing research shows hump=serious camera. The humpless NEX 5R I have will be fine for a couple of more years, until I can save up for the next greatest FF NEX.

It might explain why the viewfinder was not integrated flush with the body. Part of the "rumor" is that this is the same viewfinder as reviewed below:
"One of the hallmarks of any Pro camera is a good viewfinder. Typically most EVF (electronic viewfinders) and lower level OVF (optical view finders) have smaller, less detailed and less bright view finders. With the introduction of their Pen E-P5 camera recently, Olympus also introduced the VF4 add-on viewfinder with 2,380,000 dot OLED EVF. The original E-M5 model only provided a 1,444,000 dot resolution and at a lower effective magnification. While it was a good viewfinder it was not exceptional. The new EVF in the E-M1 is technically the same as the VF4 minus 90 degree vertical viewing capability and is larger, brighter, higher magnification and much higher resolution, then before. It approaches, but not quite equals the best OVF (optical) viewfinders in high end DSLR's. As you can see above, the viewfinder is very large, relative to the camera size. This is something that most serious enthusiast and professional photographers will appreciate."

And almost forget, out of three M 240 sold by now at Prague Leica Boutique (Foto Skoda) two were already send back to Germany for repair due to the failure..

I see this kind of comment often about non-DSLR cameras. Didn't people take great pictures of sports before autofocus? Couldn't they do the same now?
...and birds need DSLR autofocus? I guess someone will have to break the news to Douglas Herr, because he seems to have not gotten the memo.
